They'd stopped updating it, but I guess their contract with the domain expired.

EDIT:

It's not working for me either. I just did a WHOIS search on the website and it says the contract doesn't expire till November 07, 2008. So either the website is down and it's showing that page, the website owner didn't pay the bill or they sold the website.yea i just checked that too , it also states that the domain is registered to some administrator in "Slovakia" correct me if i am wrong but isn't ShadowSK from the UK.

R.I.P MxO Resource

Well...Shadow mentioned he wasn't renewing it and it would just expire...which really is a shame as it was an awesome site. He never got back to me about transferring the info the RMC to keep it living to some extent..so at this moment I guess...Noez! I used it about every day *runs off crying*

I was hoping you'd say something like that..........
That includes me: I'd gladly host MxO Resource if necessary. I wouldn't update it, but I'd keep it running.
Of course, we may be jumping to conclusions. This could be a technical fault or an administrative *CENSORED*-up.
Edit: The censored word was the one beginning with the letter C, which in this context isn't offensive in the slightest.
*shrug*
MxO Resource was, in my opinion, the best resource site
Hm, shame to see such a useful tool disappear like this. I'm still running The MxO Archive if anybody needs things like node and key coordinates, hardline locations, etc. I admit I haven't been keeping it very up-to-date, though (MxO Resource was letting me get away with being lazy, since most people were using it instead anywayYour site won me 125 million $i in a trivia contest on Vector, mostly thanks to having the exact XYZ coordinates of the gang boss Teacher." />

I'd also be happy to look into posting any of its tools or resources on my site, though that "clothing database" sounds a bit daunting for an old-fashioned HTML coder like me.

Thank you very much!

Nah, just kidding. Who the hell would know that off the top of their head?
Ruh-roh.Phew, good to hear this wasn't deliberate.
I had no idea the expiration already happened or I would have renewed it. It's really great to hear how many of you appreciated all the work that went into making it, and how much of you still used it even though it was severely out-of-date.
I'll see what I can do. All the databases are still intact, but I'm not sure if I have the source files...
EDIT: On another note, the domain was bought by someone else.

Still, surely only the domain's expired, not the site itself. Why can't you get at all the source files? Or tell us the IP address and username, if it's in the form ###.###.###.###/~username/ like so many sites are.

But, ya know, the site would need updating, and adjustments to the code would have to be made. Maybe I should just... build a new one.
=D

Would be cool. I know it's a hassle to built a site from scratch. I took a HTML/CSS class on the semester that past. It isn't as hard as Java but still. Heh
(On a side note: How can I adjust the time of the forums to my time zone? I looked under "My Profile" and couldn't find an option.)

It's a hassle when you don't know exactly what you're doing. I learned an incredible amount while building Resource that will make a new site more efficient, less complicated (for me), and provide a better user experience.
On a side note, our server/backend is PHP/MySQL.

Ah yes, of course. Alright, well, the files are accessible.Crikey!

As far as I'm concerned, Resource is (was?) awesome enough as it stands (stood?
), but if you really wanna do it again, I can't stop you.
Show once again that the community does a better job of Web development than SOE does, eh-heheheh.Can't you put the old one up somewhere while you make the new one, though?

Ruh-roh.Bought? Woah why would anyone else want that specfic domain?

Just FYI, nobody 'wants' it, it's standard practice for hijackers to grab any domain that becomes available with the sole intent of forcing the previous client to pay an exorbitant cost to reacquire. Until then, it will either get parked or utilized as a faux search engine to pilfer traffic. Forget the domain name mxoresource.com unless you feel like shelling out hundreds of dollars or even upwards of a grand to get it back.

Any thoughts? If you've got the resources to handle all the up-/downloading that goes along with something like that, I say go for it! But maybe after the rest of the site's done first, as I'm guessing a video hosting feature would be a fair bit of work. (Maybe not much more work than, say, image hosting, but still.)
This idea just came to me.Personally i think it would be a bit gimmicky, a lot of people would use it in the beginning for sure, but the fad would eventually die out. then you have to add some sort of filtering to stop people uploading material that is not suited for the site. But saying that a little video section would be nice to see, maybe have a section where people can Upload videos to a file site, then you could have a submit button on your "video page" which could Email you the link and if you feel that it is fit for the site you can encode it with the flash media encoder and drop it onto the "video page"..
Alot of modern game nowadays have built-in screen video recording and uploading. If you've ever played Halo 3 or Skate, you know what I'm talking about. Videos can be uploaded to a site for commenting, ratings, etc.; it's like a YouTube for games.
Would the MxO Community be interested in the website functionality? Obviously I can't add screen recording to MxO" />, nor provide one, but it would be kinda cool.
It should also be noted that my Flash skills aren't my strong point, but I think I can figure out video player, compression and all that good stuff. So this feature may or may not be possible, but that's why I'm asking first.
Any thoughts?

Hey Shadow-SK I had a thought for a possible Abilities section. I will PM ya.Pressure's on, Shadow. If you're getting dev suggestions, it better be *CENSORED* good when finished.

@Void: That looks promising! Never heard of it before, but I'll have to look into it. Thanks!
@Riac: Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I don't want to delve too deep into a feature that won't be used very much (*cough* file hosting, portfolio *cough*)
" />@9mm: Thanks for the suggestion! I think I will be doing that. Great idea.
@MotorZ: Yeah, I know, but if you thought Resource was good... =p
@ZaneZavin: Thanks, I think this time we'll be branching out to have an actual staff other than just myself and a couple faction members doing most of the work.
Thanks to everyone for the support! Here's to making the new fansite even better than Resource!
Note: Name of fansite is still being determined. We're tossing around some possibilities.

As a distinct entity it stands far less chance of going wrong. That's just how I see it anyway.

I don't know if you've even considered it, and I doubt this will go down too well, but if I were you I wouldn't merge this with anything else. That is, don't combine the new site with another typical community project (forum, radio station, newspaper, etc.), as all too often we've seen such monoliths vanish for various reasons.

This is true, and I've come to see the downsides of it. Resource had a community forum, merged with RMC, and I was involved with the MCT. Our new venture will definitely be independent.

Hrmm a fansite name.... sounds like an open call to me ![]()
- Data Scan
- Archive Re-imaged
- MxOResource Rebooted or Reimaged
- Resource Intercept
- Signal Hack a MxO Resource
some of them are less than inspired but eh just my two cents.

Mobile Avenue
" />Thanks for the suggestions. Keep 'em coming if you got some.
Well I'll layout the team's main choice: Mobil Avenue. This name comes from the functionality of Mobil Avenue in the Matrix. The thinking goes something like this:
Mobil Avenue is used to transfer programs from Zero One to the Matrix. The team thinks this would be perfect as a fansite by correlation that Mobil Avenue is a redpill information hub accessible in the real for uses inside the Matrix.
That's the direction we're leaning towards right now.

System Backdoor
Matrix Terminus
Iteration 7
Wireframe
Data Drop
All i can think of for now

I personally like Mobil Avenue quite a bit. It is a good analogy to the space between the 'Game' and the 'Real', which is what I assume will be Mobil Avenue's purpose. An MxO liaison, as it were.
If suggestions for things are allowed, I humbly suggest the following:
-A primer on the Storyline, including actual itemized transcripts of LE characters from the LE posts, preferably indexed by either Character or Chapter. Those pictures are nice, but it would be nice to have them reduced to Storyline relevant text strings. I believe that I've seen something similar to this, but not quite done to the level of what you could do, as proven by Resource.
-Player profiles, with pictures perhaps. Something frequent, something to help get to know the community a bit.
-Podcasts, maybe like every 2-3 months. I listened to the one you did before, and I thought it was pretty good. More please!
-A place, something more with a Zion Mainframe hacker interface rather than boring old discussion boards, where players could put up live info. on any events of significance going down. Something with a Matrix-y feel, that allowed Operatives to communicate with one another as if theye were really in the Matrix.
Just random thoughts, I'm excited to see what this new iteration will be like!!!
I'm working to have Broadcast Depth available as fast as I can.
