I just did this critical, and this whole chapter 9 storyline makes absolutely NO SENSE.

1) Freeborns cannot jack in.
2) Since (1), Freeborns have no access to the Matrix.
3) Humans cannot defeat Agents. Exception: Neo
4) Humans cannot change Machine programs. Exception: Neo.

These four facts have been established since the first movie. Therefore, since the plot line makes no sense, it's irritating me that someone would slaughter the basic rules of the Matrix to create a nonsensical storyline. I know this has something to do with that Algorithm Black, and I knew that THAT was idiotic when I saw it...but this chapter 9 storyline is...really getting bad.

I hope it gets better or I may decide to start skipping criticals until chapter 10. This is worse than the Unlimit storyline.

Algorithim: Black is a player-created event and has no connection with Chapter 9 at all, believe me.

Also, there's been defeatable Agents popping up in some of the recent critical missions. Not sure what to make of it, but hey, could be a defective Agent.

Nowhere does it say that the freeborn might not have come up with some sort of technology to allow them to at least transmit into the Matrix. Toluca, the Merovingian liaison on Recursion, is freeborn and has an interface to allow her to access the Matrix. Ask her about it: it's quite interesting.

Oh, come on.

1. This is a hugely obvious thing to point out, so obviously there's a very good explanation for the Intruder managing it. He clearly has mastery over technology in the Real for one thing.
2. This is the same point as number one, so doesn't deserve its own mention.
3. We can defeat lower level Agents, and higher level Agents when we fight en masse. It's tricky, that's all.
4. Changing Machine programs is just manipulating code. Again, this is very tricky, but the Intruder has a mastery of technology, programming, and his own code is a higher version than the Matrix's. Didn't you pay attention to the mission? He uses override codes - there's your explanation right there!

Any facts in the films were only true insofar as they made sense at the time. If there's a way around them that the story writers can come up with, that's absolutely fine.

Quibbling over what's canon and what isn't always puts me in mind of the above animated GIF...

And that one psuedo-Unlimit that hacked an Agent. But wasn't it explained that the Intruder is using override codes?

Don't forget Trinity who said "Dodge this" before putting a bullet in an Agent's forehead.

Of course that could've just been a lucky shot.

And Morpheus kicking an Agent into the windshield of an oncoming car.

The first film laid down the foundation for the story, the sequels fleshed out the story. Nowhere does anything say that you cannot build upon the story. Things change all the time, change is the spice of life, what makes it interesting.

Change is good, as so far as it doesn't ruin the story. Deviating from the original Matrix idea kinda ruins the storyline. And BTW, the intruder thing still makes no sense.

Not makeing sence and not understanding are two very diffrent things. Seeing as many seem to have an idea about whats going on I think its more of an issue of you just not understanding.

Also if there is no deviation from the movie storyline then the whole Matrix tale will get stale. As long as they do not break fundamental rules (as we know them at the moment) without a good, fitting and plausible explanation of how and why, then there is no problem with a divergent storyline.
