#3630035224111/13/2007 05:56:49The ole' "stuck at authenticating" issue.
I noticed after some searches that many people have had issues with logging in and it getting stuck, and not responding at "authenticating". I am too. Luckily, I have station access, so I have other games to play that actually WORK. I'm trying to give this a chance, but I think it is so ironic that a game based around a set of movies all about hip technology can't even perform as well as EQ 1, EQ2 , WoW, and many others. My PC is up to date, I know all that. I know all about the firewall issues. I know how to disable everything and have. No, I am not going to reinstall windows. Sorry, wanted to rant a bit. Maybe I'll check back in a few months or something. Unless someone has a solution? I played a long time ago and thought it was a pretty cool game..just thought it'd be a shame if something like this makes me forget it. Any ideas? I'm on windows XP, AMD 3500 plus proc, geforce 7900 256 card, Audigy XFI sound, a gig and a half of ram, cable connection. Like I said, it's not my PC. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

And it keeps going on and on haha.. So I will start the launcher, and make sure that the switch is flipped to "full system check", then I have to cleck "accept" for the EULA before it does anything..so I do.. It goes to the next screen, where it says that everything is up to date, and needs to restart, AGAIN. All the while having "full system check" checked. It restarts...I have to accept the EULA. Same process over and over. This is a joke.

Hi dude, we are all getting this at the moment, they are updating the servers etc, so for now things are gonna be offline.
I dont believe Virrago got around to a formal annoucement. Should be up around two hours from my post, but keep trying.

I saw that in the News and Announcement section, but didn't open it because it only had the 8th in the subject. I thought normal sked updates/maint. was done at 4am PST.

4 hour downtime I think, so 30 mins left.
Is it just me or before when the servers were down you could still log on but the character selection list had the 'start' button removed as it said the servers were down.

No clue, but it's taking an awefull long time though

Just out of interest, is it the 'Authenticating...Failure (ERROR)' message everyone is getting, or have i got something else going on wrong ontop of all this? (Can't really remember what message you get during server downtime as i can't remember the last time i logged in during it)
Narf, scrap that question, just discovered that indeed everyone is...ah the wonders of actually searching around a bit before posting something *Quick slap to the back of the wrist for me*

It's the same error, yeah.
As for seeing the character selection screen normally, it depends when you check: in a normal update I usually get authentication errors for half an hour, then manage to get to the selection screen (but no further) for another half an hour. Also, bare in mind that this isn't a normal update. They're upgrading the operating system or something, so it's bound to be a more vigorous process for the poor things.
Anyway, the four hours are up now, but the servers aren't. It shouldn't take too much longer.

They are upgrading the OS on all their systems apparently. Whilst we all hope for a smooth transition it would be silly not to expect some problems or issues... I've always thought that the authentication servers were seperate from the game servers, so even when you authenticate succesfully, if the game servers aren't up then you can't select a character to play. The immediate error seems to indicate that the authentication server is still down...
