Okay, get this, get this.

Right, so, Smith turned Bane into Smith/Bane, right, so when Bane jacked out, Smith jacked out with him. Now Bane's running around as Smith ... no, wait, switch that. So Smith is running around in Bane's body, but then he dies because apparently Smith's soul is combustible. And visible to Neo.

..right. Moving on.

So anyway, Neo beat Smith, right? WRONG! Neo let Smith take him over, making him Smith/Neo (let's just call this one Zero). Anyway, cuz Zero was jacked into the Matrix via the Source or whatever, Deus Ex Machina was able to establish a direct connection with Smith and delete him that way.

But what about Zero? I mean, Neo? I mean, Smith? Arrgh, I'm so confused.

Anyway, that's who I think Mystery Man is. Thoughts?

The Sources link to the Smith virus was through Neo's body which was possed by Smith. Once the link was established the source was then able to purge the Smith virus from the system as we see and all the original forms of those taken over by the Smith virus are returned. (ORacle, Seraph, Sati etc). So with no smith virus that would mean that Neo's body is no longer possed by Smith and should he be alive it would be his own mind in control of hsi body and not some Smith/Neo hybrid.

I think you confused yourself when you tried to create the character "Zero" and make him fit.

As for the mystery man, new guy. No one else fits.

Bane was erased forever when Smith took him over, so essentially Bane WAS Smith, but with a goatee.

Now, suppose Neo's body survived or was revived for whatever reason by the Machines. Because he was overwritten by Smith, the Neo we all know is gone forever (throws a rock at EPN). But if he was ever revived, it would be Smith in his noodle instead of Neo. And since Smith inherits the abilities of those he's overwritten....

Then again, I'm inventing my own logic to stir up crazy theories to pass the time. But in a weird sort of way, one must admit it's highly possible.

#36300347943 11/04/2007 19:52:46 Re:Paranoid Smith/Neo Theory

We don't know that Bane was erased forever. The pipe to his head before the virus was deleted sorta saw to that. But we do know that programs that were taken over by Bane reverted to themselves after the virus was cleased. The same most likely would have happend to Bane had he ben jacked in and certainly happend to Neo who was jacked in.

You could think Neo and Smith like this:

Neo = +1
Smith = -1

What happens when you put them together? Zero. But you gotta relook things, such as the Smith who overwrote Neo was Smith/Oracle. She let him overwrite her, what else could this of done to Smith?

I've never bought the "source deleted Smith thru connection of Neo" bunk.  It's a lame excuse of an explanation for people who don't understand the mystical symbolism behind the entire story.  It's another one of those fan created delusions that has somehow gained pseudo-credibility by being endlessly repeated, like "Morpheus found and trained five 'ones' before Neo" (Which has even made it in to MxO "canon.")  I know a lot of The Matrix is open-ended and free for interpretation, but the annihilation at the meeting of opposites is one of those universal dualistic concepts which shouldn't be that hard to wrap a meat-mind around.

So... a wizard did it? Huh.... okay. Tossing magic into the world of electronics... didn't hurt last time.

Morpheus thinking he'd found the One several times before he found Neo is definitely canon -- it's mentioned in the critical missions from a while back (I can't remember which chapter).

Yeah, Lyr's right. Thinking he found and trained The One and actually finding and training The One are two different things.

The Oracle explained the ending processes of a program. they can either choose Exile or return to the source for deletion. Smith was not expecting Neo to reach the source, in which time he was supposedly purged from anything connected to the Matrix. And by reinserting his code back into the Source the system was able to Reload? or are we still in the 6th reiteration?

Still in the 6th. Its more like 6.5 though since we see the Matrix being reset in the movie but we are still on the 6th anomaly.

Canon from MxO, not from the movies.  Nothing in any of the movies even alludes to "failed ones."  It was a bad idea that someone who wrote/writes for MxO didn't see through and instead used it, giving it more validity than even the "it's endlessly repeated and widely accepted, therefore it must be true" variety of bad idea.

There is a disturbing trend developing here, where people are always responding to what they misunderstood instead of responding to what I actually said.  As a form of communication of concrete ideas, language sucks, and forum posts are the lowest form of language.

The Matrix is a modern myth that incorporates things familiar to us like networked computers and robotics. At its heart, the mythical trumps the mechanical.  Certainly this isn't the place for courses on philosophy, religion, myth and mysticism.  Perhaps those interested could start by finding an English translation of the Sanskrit words sung in Neodammerung/Navras, which are from the Upanishads of the Vedas.  Really, my son was 14 when he saw Revolutions and no one had to "explain" it to him with some trumped up sci-fi notion.  He said, "Neo and Smith were destroyed because they were complete opposites which were brought together, balancing the equation in one violent moment."  Smart kid.

Actually...

I think Illyria is right, unfortunately. There's a version of the script made in 97 or so, where Cypher and Neo talk about the previous ones that were found and trained. That's also the reason that Trinity is so apprehensive about Neo, wanting to believe he's the one, but not wanting to be hurt again if he died.

Trinity (Subway scene before Smith fight) - "Everything the Oracle told me was true... everything but this."

That's also the reason why Cypher says "We're gonna kill him" in the beginning of the movie. Just like all the others.

Also, in the original draft for Reloaded, when Neo wakes up aboard the Neb, he was supposed to find a picture of the crew, with a guy that Neo didn't recognize. He asks her who it is and she tells him "it's not important, because he isn't you" or something to that effect.
I have them if you'd like to take a look. Chadwick is just using what they decided to keep under the surface.

Couldn't they also be referring to the other people that Morpheus had assumed were the one? I recall a story about a certain stunt double.

Scene 78 (Int. Hall). . . right on time.

It looks to me that this scene got cut primarily due to story continuity of cutting Morpheus' previous five mistakes. The surrounding scenes must have been rewritten to tell the parts of the story that weren't cut (i.e. Neo's punk-*CENSORED* attitude to Morpheus, Neo's self-doubt leading him to believe what he wanted to believe when the Oracle told him he wasn't ready, etc).

I'm glad they cut it, because I don't think Keanu could have pulled off the emotion needed for that scene as it was written. They built those other scenes on the other actors abilities. The story worked much better in the final result.

So, the big question here is, if it didn't make it into the movie, is it still canon? People may want it to be canon, and the W's seem to have wanted to play it that way. but in the end, they decided to cut it. So, can we still say that it's part of the story?

Keanu Reeves pwns you, ShiX. lol
