Though this may be going against the grain a bit (not being related to the Halloween event), I was asked by a few people recently and a while ago about writing another tutorial. I wanted to ask those that are still interested, what kinds of things would you all like to be able to do artistically. My primary tools of the trade are Adobe Photoshop/ImageReady and DAZ Studio, and I can provide tutorials for those programs. Let me know/discuss what you guys want here if you all want.

Thanks

This is more of a question than a request as I know the process is quite complicated.  I was wondering if anyone has tips on vectoring images, an example would be taking a normal photograph or in game screen shot and turning it into a drawn image of itself.  If anyone saw A Scanner Darkly, that's kind of what I'm talking about, only with stills and not moving footage.  I already know how to use vectors and the ilk, but being a working man with a kid it's quite hard for me to really spend the amount of time necessary to produce good results with that method.  I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good shortcuts or tricks to speed up the process, or perhaps a nice alternative.

Whoa...didn't expect so many replies...

Thanks Rare, though I already knew about cutout, I use a mix of cutout and sketch filters currently to achieve something decent, but I've just been looking for something better.  Thanks to mantra as well the link you posted was actually pretty helpful.  Everyone else, thanks as well the information is greatly appreciated if I ever get anything off the ground, I'll post it up somewhere.

Thanks to rare for that second little trick, I'll mess around with that a bit and see what I get.  I've actually been working on this idea for a while, I'm trying to create a graphic novel mixing real life shots with in game shots, and I'm trying to find a good way to make the real shots look more inked, while still trying to mesh it well with in-game shots.

Yeah, I find that I don't really like using straight-up art filters for my own final stuff, because they do just come out with that "this is filter x" look. Cutout also has the annoying tendency to eliminate essential details.

I gave your tutorial a try, and made myself a new avatar:

I like it, but it reminds me of something and I can't figure out what! SMILEY
