Male: Agent Suit

 Female: Pace's suit

Merv: Shoes

Male: The Merovingian's shoes (like luciens but dark black instead of brown)

Female: ?

I actually agree with this... for the chapter rewards we'd still have to do those from the other orgs, so there would still be work involved.  The individial org clothing rewards, however, should be collected by just doing the criticals as they are presented.  That way, if you wanted to get the rewards from the other orgs, you would still have to grind out the missions for them.
#36300343402 10/26/2007 12:19:05 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007
The only problem I can see with that is you need the tokens for the collector. If you get a token after each crit then keeping the tokens from the first mission in the chapter all the way until the end will just take up inventory/e-mail/mule space... people complain about the lack of space as it is. Unless they could be made to stack. The only other way would be for the item to automatically be downloaded into your inventory after the final mission, but that doesn't mean that that person has done each mission in the chapters earlier. My alt hasn't done any Chapter 8 criticals, when I started today it only presented me with chapter 8.3 skipping .1 and .2. So something will have to be collected as I don't think the server keeps track of what missions you've done beyond the current chapter...
#36300343412 10/26/2007 12:45:47 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007
Yeah, that is true, but we still need space for the arc tickets and tokens at the end of it all anyway... plus we already do get reward items at the end of completing crits.

True but that is usually at the end of a chapter while people are wanting the FX item asap which takes less then a day to work through if you have the time, you don't have to carry them about with you for 18 weeks or however long the time is for each new FX or item.

I'm a bit puzzled about what you mean by the items gained at the end of the crits. The only (usable) items I've ever gotten required the tokens... after each chapter.

Weird... after ever crit I complete, I get a high buffed item (generally level 45 and up) as a "reward" for finishing it.  It's not always something I need or want or can use, but it's always a piece of clothing or a weapon.  When I complete an arc, of course, I get the next arc ticket or the completion token if it was a chapter ender.
#36300343706 10/27/2007 05:12:18 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007
Oh, well I'm not sure, never really noticed. Are you sure its not just loot you've picked up along the way? The only time I've gotten an item for completing a mission is on the 'Meet Agent Gray' Criticals and then the mission tells you to make sure you have space in your inventory.

I'll have to test it out on the next crit!
#36300343708 10/27/2007 05:22:14 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007
What Vinia said. If I do notice anything new in my inventory, I assume it's loot. Useless loot at that. Then again, the Meet Agent Gray missions never provided me with anything useful either. SMILEY

Very sure it's not just loot  SMILEY  I generally recycle everything I get as soon as I pick it up unless it's something I want or will be selling on the market so my inventory (or at least the few spaces I save as "open"SMILEY stays pretty much empty all the time.

<3 all this new stuff, Rare. But however, i know 9mmmmfuuuuu says it can't be done. Inverntory space.
I mean, we're getting all this new stuff and running out of space to put it. My E-mail is full of guns, clothes, items, ect.
Same with most my 50s. But, Yeah. Nice going! ^_^

I have to hold my hands up Shin... I've always thought it was just semi-level loot, but I did get something upon completing a Crit.

Hmmm - I wish I had caught on to this thread much earlier - but I don't often browse this section.

Rarebit - sweetie ... uhm,

First some positives:
They look nice and smooth. High rez and realistic. The female version is nice and tight and the male version is hawt and stylish. I am glad to see that you steered clear of making them too dark and flat. You preserved the hightlights and texture of the fabric. Very nice. They give the models depth and blend with the environment very well. Overall in that department you did real good.

Now - some crits, call them ... some suggestions:
They lack luster - pizzaz - life! They are - as everyone has stated ... kinda boring. Too plain - something I would pass up in the store or just buy as a generic pant for working out on the factory floor at work. For being a reward item they need ... something much more. "Wildfire Pants" huh ... hmmms. How about ... some black flames coming up from the bottoms? Sort of like the Merovingian Demon Coat? Subtle flames - but "cool" looking flames.

I know you have already made these and have probably already paked them up into the models. But ... if you can, maybe you should unpak em and rework them to make them a bit more exciting.

I can help you - If you just listen to me in a PM, I'll give you some suggestions that might make these players say ooouuu instead of yuk.

I just want to help. You're almost getting it - but nooooot quite. This kind of thing is very artsy fartsy - not technical. Think more with your left side of your mind than your right.

*kisses*
#36300344678 10/29/2007 12:31:21 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007
Short of applying textures like his avatar artwork, I don't think Rarebit can do anything like that. If he was capable of drawing flames and such like you suggest, I'm sure he'd've done it by now. MxO needs a dedicated artist, and it ain't Rarebit's fault that they don't have one.
#36300344680 10/29/2007 12:36:22 Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007

Um, hawk.. the pants are called "Rave Pants" - "Wildfire" refers to the situation in California - specifically why Rarebit posted the IR instead of Raijinn.

#36300344685 10/29/2007 12:39:58 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007
I like ooouuu... but seeing as these pants are for Zion who traditionally wear extremes of light and dark and perhaps a flash of another colour, a flame motif would appeal more to your Merv Operative than your Zion in my opinion. Whilst the female version do look a bit plain and could do with some zips or buckles or some such subtle detailing like stitched in patterns or Area-K patterns, the Male pants look quite good, agreed not everyone's cup of tea but appealing to most.

No! SMILEY The problem with female clothing in MxO is that everything has weird buckles and stuff. It's almost impossible to construct a sensible faction uniform for women.

#36300344751 10/29/2007 14:07:08 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007

Actually Rarebit is capable of modifying textures.  And if he really opened up a texture package, which I am sure he has the tools to do so - he could probably paint some something onto the existing maps.  It's his personal artistic style that conflicts with the overall requirements of the set art of the game that come to light here.  Otherwise - he could make something a bit better I think.  There is what Rarebit likes art-wise and what the game has already in it - and  Rarebit wants what Rarebit wants - and unfortunately his stubbornness is his greatest hinderance.

Why did he change Niobe's costume in the first place anyway?  You should never change a core character's costume.  That's how you identify with that character ... eh - again ... Rarebit wants what RAREBIT wants, not what we want.  And he should really reconsider that and maybe start to change that behavior.  I don't say that to be mean to him - but he needs it.

Raver Pants are a lot wilder that that - take a look at these:

http://www.psydeways.com/photos/

Wow - those are some funky pants!!

#36300344782 10/29/2007 14:36:29 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007
You can't say Rarebit wants what he wants unless you know for a fact that the majority of people didn't want the characters' costumes changed. I happen rather to like the change of style: it sets the new mood of the game post-Truce.

I'd like to see some examples of Rarebit's texture work, if, as you say, he can do that.
#36300344786 10/29/2007 14:41:19 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007

Niobe's change isn't permanant - in pre chapter 8 archives, and Zion intro / graduation criticals, she still wears her old red thing. The chapter 8 ones are designed as alternates, for variety's sake... but personally, I hate her new look. I'd have prefered a black version of her old getup.

The only retroactive Chapter 8 redesigns are:

Black suit Ghost has a beard (but only in "present" missions, not archives).

All agents (including Gray and Pace, excluding imposter and n30 agents) have darker suits

#36300344790 10/29/2007 14:43:42 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007
And I don't consider the un-darkened LED/N30s to be an error - they're imposters, and it only adds to the difference between them and the real ones.

Procurator wrote:

That is something only Rarebit himself can provide.  I cannot.
As far as I understood him from a discussion I had with him, he's experimented with value changes of tints of some of the items in the game.  Those hideously flat black suits I complain so much about all the time.  This version appears to be a more direct manipulation of the map itself.  I could be wrong.  If you want Rarebit to really prove this that much PM him yourself and see if he responds.
I am trying to help him with my artistic knowladge about game design and texture stuff.  Instead of the normal "hire a dang artist" - because that ain't gonna happen.  Might as well give him some pointers he can use to give this sad sack of a game some life than just yell at him all the time.
Maybe Niobe needs more red back into her - to give her original look back.  That's how I identified with her as a core character.  All that red.  Maybe not nessisarily the old red croc costume - but back to more red - deffinatly.
#36300344826 10/29/2007 15:09:05 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007
You were the one who suggested Rarebit could do texture work, so I'm afraid the burden of proof is on you. From what I've seen, everything Rarebit's done so far, graphics wise, is tinting of existing textures and some technical things like getting bump-mapping to work. The former isn't texture work in the sense of drawing; it's just colouring.
#36300344850 10/29/2007 15:23:50 Re:Image Retrieval - October 24, 2007
Well - If I can get some examples out of him, and his expressed permission to show you then I will give you proof.  But - the likely hood of that happening is next to nill.  However - for your benefit - I shall ask Rarebit himself in a PM.  It will take a few days maybe - but I'll let you know if I get an answer - if I get an anser at all.  Still - if you require that kind of direct proof - you should ask him yourself, not me.
I only want to help Rarebit - it's up to him wether or not he chooses to take any advice I give him. It's his choice - it all comes to choice.  He is more technical than artistic - I'd say .... he is about 80% techy and 20% art in personality.  He is also stubborn and thinks he knows everything in the universe like most computer techies do.
There is not much that can be done about these pants now because he's pobably already paked the files together for the update and moved onto the next thing.  But for future items - he should consider more flare.

Agreed it's hard to find decent uniform style pants for Women but it is not often I see many women in uniform, only my Female faction mates and one or two from other uniformed factions... Meh, personally I prefer something other then plain clothing, but understand that it is necessary at times...

Actually - he told me he does appreciate the tips I give him.  And he doesn't mind getting the tips once in a while.  He does use them - in a small way.
I'm not a student so I can't be an Intern.  I graduated art college a long time ago.
What is with you guys?  He's open to tips and he posts this stuff openly for public feedback - all you have to do is speak up - but be respectful and offer insightful critisism instead of the normal "that teh sux!". That is what he really is looking for.  It helps him make better stuff if we really tell him NICELY what we think.  I came to know this about him - and now respect him that way.  And Rarebit does like pictures - so provide pictures if you think of a design that might be better and post it up here.
SOE is so frikken' cheap and negelctful of this title they aren't going to hire any extra artists or animators anytime soon.  Rarebit is the best your going to get.  So - help him out a little - or not.  it's totaly up to him wether or not he wants to use the suggestions or not.  It's his right to his dissgression  - that is his job ultimatly.

Bump mapping isn't a pun - it's a technique in texture mapping.

Hmm - how to say this ....

It's a way of enhancing the texture of an object, to give it a "bumpy" feeling. Without adding extra polygons to the model. Using a bump-map will give your object the illusion of being textured and bumpy or have tactile feel in the "world". While not really being bumpy.

Spectrality is the lighting - the hard lighting -.O ... if I remember right ... the highlights that make something shiney.

However - there are always puns for Pants!

The pants aren't that bad, but really, what'd you expect from a new pair of pants without looking like a total goober? Maybe a little somethin' like this would be prefferred?

Either way, their decent, probably go pretty well with the Area K
