the movies tell us a lot about the main ideas, philosophes, and some background on the Matrix universe. with the release of, "Animatrix," we are given even more background and history of said universe, and it's workings. interviews and other works either written by, or revised by the 'W' brothers has delved even deeper into these side plots, and this is a thread that would hopefully combine all of that knowledge into one place on these forums.
so, what do we know? this can be charecter backgrounds, history, functionality/workings, allusions, what ever. just don't post a wiki-pedia link =P
so, my input is that there are more cities in the simulation that just the mega city. we know that there are multiple countries with-in the simulation from the comics, and from when Neo was searching for Morpheus, as it states he was last seen somewhere in Europe.
also, there is a story about a ship that crashes while some of the operatives are inside the Matrix, around a city much like Pheonix, Arizona. that, coupled with the story of someone the machines pulled from the simulation who was located in London provide a pretty clear idea that there is more to the Matrix than our lovely little Metro World.
