I can't help but wonder who's decision and direction it was to allow the elite commando suit to be used as a set of well buffed items... We've gone so many months without it which I've been gratefulf for, since I think as these Exiles as not having an appearance that fits the Matrix-lore. Now, not only do we have access to wear the goggles, but the entire suit as a whole. To me, these Exiles have never looked like much of a threat -- just like rubbermen, or maybe jelly from a can. So now, because they're well buffed, they're going to be all over the place. We'll be seeing people mix up these articles of clothing into regular gear, with black socks, rather than shoes or boots.

Not to mention, those goggles have the same effect that has been made perpetual and granted as a reward to players -- nullifying their meaning. Its like handing out beta players to new trial subscribers...

So, why was this direction chosen for content within the game -- resulting in mass outfits being released that make me in the mood to make a pb&j?

Matrix-lore? What do you expect top-secret "army" type people are going to wear? Think Sam Fisher from Splinter-Cell. They're RP reason was to avoid your mission scanners, which was reasonable. What do you mean by Matrixy? That these top secret infiltrators should wear trench coats and glasses? I think this is definitely Matrixy considering the time setting. We have Agents going around in FBI get-up, stuck-up White people using French, and Zion in the over-the-top terrorist gear screwing with the Matrix. Why not have secret infiltrator clothing? :/

I always loved the Elite Commandos - a cross between redpill leather, intimidating special ops, and humanoid sentinels.  The fact that their entire getup is a *set* of high level quest items is awesome...

 Now, about the General's beret...

I'm pleased that it's not an "Elite Commando mask" or a single item that gives you the suit. I enjoy that the Elite Commando drops are in pieces that can be mixed and matched. And the fact that you only need three to six people to kill the spawn means that this is probably the best content they've added in a long time.

Area K Jacket = Best ever.
Elite Commando gear = Very nice addition.
Patcher's Headgear = not worth the effort for me.
Ability Pills = Not sure yet; haven't seen them.
Data Mining Spawn = Makes Data Miner fun.
Overdrive Bandana & Quicksilver Gloves = Great items.

I would love more Box-type missions that offer quest-chains and special spawns for groups.

Of course the buffs on the new Elite Commando gear only means we'll see more knifers and riflemen about. I'm hoping that at some point some new gear based around Hackers or Martial Artists will surface, offering content that will reward other loadouts with something useful. I think it would be great if the Merovingian (or Persephone) gave Beirn his own construct where we could do battle with a level 60 or 70 Beirn.

What I like is the goggles and other pieces of the new content is unique - different from the same old stuff. Black bandanas are getting kinda' old after a few years, imo.

#36300333520 10/05/2007 05:08:26 Re:Elite Commando Suit

I agree there are concerns with creating a lot of 'out of place' looking players in a city that is supposed to convice as 'generic 1990's earth' etc.... however I love the outfit and cant wait to get it. Overall the problem is making anything so good you almost cant resist using it...and hence everyone ends up looking the same...hopefully the components here will be intermingled and not intensify that problem.

we need more very good items with very similar buffs so people can mix and match more without ruining their buffs or conversely having the best buffs insist you wear only one outfit etc....

I quite like my Razergirl cycle suit but the best part of it is the horrible mis match of clothhing it hides....

if we cant have a new clothing system or a much bigger wardrobe to select from - could we instead perhaps expand on clothing and steadily eliminate shielded or armoured gear in favour of enhanced items so we can have more combinations of clothing without compromising our buffs and/or can we look at clothing styles so that it isnt just shortboots that appear with any buffs over 45 etc

Did I say 'lol' at the end of that statement? Yes, the Area K jacket is currently the best coat for a Gunman in PVP. It's also very useful against Gunmen as well as Hackers, even if you're not a Gunman yourself.

I dunno - they seem like items worth the fight to get them.
I think they aren't all that bad.  Heh heh heh - I was joking with my guildmates,
The new Elite Command suits!   Black, sleek and ribbed for your pleasure !
We get so little new in this game - be happy with what you get.  Maybe Mr.Rarebit can make some more colors of the suits so ppl can match it with their hair.  Hey Rarebit, I'm defending you for a change - I like the additions .
Not in Matrix lore eh?  Well, there are a lot of add-on characters in this game that aren't in the original movies.  They fit in the current storyline so I don't see why they wouldn't be fitting in Matrix lore.

Not every gunman LO works best with Area Ks, it doesn't provide protection for close encounters against the nemesis class (spy) or MA. I at all times prefer wearing other ballistic outerwears, even in duels.

It is a bit disappointing that the suit includes the headgear, again this will lead to a lot of indistinguishable rsi's - headgear in general in MxO needs a serious review the definability of your rsi is a cool feature that is too easily lost under an all obscuring mask SMILEY

Nah. If the mask was some how included then I'd agree with you, but the name above the head and the lips usually define the character enough.

I only really want the goggles for this:

...and my outfit is complete.

I am a little afraid of everyone looking the same, however I've been waiting for this outfit to come out for a while now. I may not wear it, but the option is there if I ever wanted to change my mind. Although, what I'm REALLY looking more forward to is the Box 3 spy/commando getup, if that ever happens. For now, Elite Commando will do.

Although, those aren't the commando boots, those are shoes/socks. Where are the BOOTS boots?

I personally LOVE the elite commando suit. It makes my time as an MA that much easier. And trust me, after the people wearing the full suit get their butts handed to them by the MAs they will start to rethink their clothing options.

My example is the damage I did to Thebruceter. It was quite fun, and I forsee alot more easy CQs to come. SMILEY

You didn't know? Tytanya plays with nametags off. It's like visiting a restaurant where all your waiters are nondescript, wear hats, and no nametags, not introducing themselves, so you have to guess who yours is. It sucks when you order chicken alfredo and get zerged, tho.

haha ya if they have no MA res they'll quickly filter down and people will hardly ever wear the full suit, of course if whoever has it loaded up akido like the real ones it might make it a bit better.

Yeah, everyone was complaining about more Ranged attack equipment while MA's were getting gyped. Little did they realize that Rarebit decreased the mean resistance of every Gunman and Spy on the server by 150 points to Hacker/MA for the first week that the items came out, and it'll probably be about 100 less on average onward as people wise up - yet still want some bonuses.

I statted to Hacker the same day that these came out. >.>
#36300335306 10/09/2007 13:50:43 Re:Elite Commando Suit

I don't know why people are complaining about resistance when the clothes are obviously made to be fit for a Sniper or a subtle MKT. They're not tank clothes, they're just there for mostly buffs, making you suck badly if you don't have the high accuracy of MKT, or high damage of sniper. So 3-shot people with Sniper, and outroll those while using MKT.

the current problem lies in PvP. 90% of the population is now sniper / mkt. That involves the next annoyance: Ednix jumpers. Hell, last sunday the whole of Exploits had more airtime than the whole Zion PvP population (on all 3 servers) over the last month *sarcasm*.
I hope this normalizes. I love hunting runners, but it's annoying if the only thing you do is hunt runners all day.

Very nice there, Duckker. Very healthy contribution.

I don't use the gear for PVP. It's unreliable. You'll get smoked if you fight more than one person. You'll also get smoked if you fight one or more hackers or martial artists.

Hmmmm -

As for looks - I do not know why but the suit looks way better on a girl than a guy.  I give this fashion demonstration to you from my beautiful guildmate Vinia.  She is showing off her fabulous magic Commando Shirt and Pants.  She worked hard to get them.  And she looks smokin'!!

Perhaps it is better used as combat gear for events and missions.  After all, that is what it is - combat gear (essentialy).  As for PvP, I guess that is up to you PvPers.  Although I probly wouldn't duel in PvP a person all decked out in a full suit if I did not also have a full set because then it wouldn't be very fair.

I like how I can hide my suit with something like an armored milleri creme dress, or a tunic.

But yeah, honestly, the suit if you wear in pvp it's good for 1 hit wonders, or if everyone is loaded as MKT or Gunman.

Yeah... very skin tight, the female version. The male version obviously doesn't leave much to the imagination, unless the chicks are into the chest muscles and not the muscle that actually counts. ;) In either case, Body Type 3 is the best show off for males, especially since one of the crotch polygons goes berserk when you sit down in specific moods as BT3.

I'd /bug it, but the polygon DOES leave much to the imagination. :3
