I'm also very wary of the Concealment Countermeasure being abused. I expect that the zerg will employ an unflagged lowbie to spam the move repeatedly. There goes spy and sniper.

I liked the patch and the new quest (even though I have bad opinions about giving spies and snipers another edge) but what really bugs me is why couldn't we have the wallkicks as a grantable pill or item that either lets u use the item for lets say 30 IS, or have the pill grant the ability in the awakened tree like the bite at Halloween. Since I don't see either of those now then there's hardly any chance of change but can it at least be made so the lvl 70 sim drops at LEAST 3-4 at once??
#36300333353 10/04/2007 19:15:51 Re:Update 55 Discussion
Considering all the hype over the abilitie pills.

I think they pretty awesome. You dont actualy have an animation /takepill ..its just like clicking a hotbar icon for a move, and it executing. just a shame its non reuseable.

Good stuff though.
#36300333407 10/04/2007 21:50:48 Re:Update 55 Discussion

Great patch overall, though I've been getting stuck in block tactics quite a bit since the patch... thing is, I wasn't even using block tactics when I was getting stuck with them.  More study is required, but it seemed that as IL was ending for one reason or another (enemy roll out or enemy defeated), I'd try free attacking and was told I couldn't do it while in block tactics.  I was, however, running speed tactics most of the time (speed tactics was even still showing as active under my hotbars) and clicking on speed tactics again to "refresh" my tactic choice let me start free attacking as normal.

My other issue with the patch is the special move pills.  Well, it's not the pills themselves, but the way you get them.  I get that this is the only way we're getting those moves back, and yes, I would rather have them this way than not at all.  I also get that they should not be quick and easy to attain otherwise everyone would be using them constantly and they wouldn't be special at all.  What I really don't like is having to do a team activity (beating the training sim.. I know I'm not a great fighter, but I serously can't see someone doing that by themselves) for an item that is a single use by one player that doesn't even have any positive effect for more than the single player (and even then the positive is almost purely visual).  Is there no way these pills could be tradeable for at one of the collectors?  Make it a long grind for items to get even a single pill (say 20, 30 or even 40 gold badges in Stratford Campus for one pill) so that it would be an activity a single player could do that wouldn't be quick (easy, yeah, but not quick).  In short, the effect is a single use consumable for a single player with only a unique visual effect and I don't believe it should be a team activity to collect them.  The way they are set up now isn't only going to keep them rare, it's going to keep them virtually unused and unseen, which kind of defeats the purpose of bringing these moves back in the first place.

Just to clarify, we're talking about the training sim in the Org construct or is there another in the white hallways?

Love the patch overall, the White hallways in particular.  Just including the other hallways is a plus. I also love how if you keep searching the doors you'll end up at another doorway somewhere in the Matrix. Makes them feel more like the doors in the movie. I especially like how we have to work together to get the suit and it doesn't require an insane farm.  Players can assemble teams just like camping a dungeon, a Construct, doing a PB box or the Area-K.  I'm still working on a full wardrobe so looks like I'll be spending a good time in there.  I already stated my opinion on the shadow pills. I didn't like how they were going to be implemented but just the fact that they are ingame again is good news. I'm not sure if the amount of work required to get one pill is equal to the the one time effect but I'll probably keep one or to handy. I would've loved to have a new physical ability to be added to the ability trees but what are ya gonna do...

Lots of bugs fixed and I did take notice that a lot of the things worked on were things that have been mentioned here on the boards. That tells me they are listening and working on topics we bring up. In my opinion that always equals an awesome patch and tells me that things look good for the future.

Yes, I got the Shadow Phoenix pill from the training Sim in the Machine Org area.

Love the update, additions and bug fixes alike!

I've been told that the pills are actually org related as well... easy enough fix for that assuming we want to keep them that way, make them tradable via the org traders instead of the city area trader.  There we go.  *pokes Rarebit*

Questions about Commando Gear:

Why aren't the boots actual boots?

Why isn't there a shirt form of the Commando Gear? (Yes, I know the jacket covers the shirt, but I would also like to be able to come up with clothing combinations with other coats as well. That, and it seems incomplete).

That's a good point. I actually want to replace my Squad Leaders shirt above any other item of clothing, but there are no commando shirts. The jackets actually look more like shirts and I'd like wear one along with the Area K.

I would think that Org abilities would not be able to be used by those not of the right Org. As these pills are tradeable they would be able to be used by anyone regardless of Org. At least that's what I see.

Also, nice adjustment with the Satellite upload animation, very smooth!
#36300334908 10/08/2007 15:14:27 Re:Update 55 Discussion

Counter Concealment .. if you use it on a flagged player.. you should become flagged.  That's worse than blue rezzing and buffing...  you're completely taking action in PvP.. in the moment.. and you aren't attackable.

That's like in a war, you can walk up to the enemy shooting at your allies.. take away his gun and he can't do anything to you whatsoever.

I'm glad it works, and I'll use it while I'm flagged.. otherwise .. lame.

#36300335123 10/09/2007 05:23:41 Update 55 Discussion
Well if they fix that they better go fix blue rezzing while they're at it =P
#36300335207 10/09/2007 09:16:37 Re:Update 55 Discussion

The fundemental problem if I recall with Blue Rezing is when a player dies on a non hostile server their pvp flag is removed so when they are rezed the Rezer doesn't flag due to their target no longer being flagged for pvp.

Not as easy to resolve as the Counter measure tool.

i dont know if this is already something known to most players or not, but last week i found another entrance into the white hallways in international.  In Ikebukuro, iside the parking lot near the central HL.

I'm going to check now to see if its still there, wasnt sure if it was a glitch or what.  But if not, it makes me wonder if there is one in each District....  ?

#36300335511 10/10/2007 01:37:26 Re:Update 55 Discussion
Animation feedback:

The signal Booster Dish animation seems to have been toned down too much.  It's completely transparent at the extremes and still very translucent even at the middle.  While the old one was too loud and obnoxious, especially when there were a lot of Portable Signal Booster Dishes around, the new one isn't noticeable enough.  I suggest adding a few green code symbols trailing from the rings, along the lines of the "loot me" animation on dead NPCs, though less bright and fewer code symbols with shorter streams.  There is a tendency to over compensate when toning something down, effectively nerfing it altogether.

Stuff I'm going to regret typing:

I can feel the waves of hate coming my way already, but I'm going to say this anyway... there is no such thing as Blue Buffing.  If a buffer buffs someone who is flagged, the buffer becomes flagged as well.  If he's buffing someone who isn't flagged, then it isn't a PvP situation.  Even if the buffie flags up when the buffer is done, the "fix" would mean forcing both buffer and buffie to flag any and every time any buff is applied.  If that's what you want, go to Vector.  Now to make things worse for myself...

The combat system used to have some horrible bugs which would allow an attack to succeed even if the attacked character was already dead.  This resulted in all sorts of other bugs, including being stated and/or flagged while dead.  The last of the bugs from this are only now being fixed.  Under the old system, res would not work on someone in another org who was flagged.  The system would report "Target is not a dead friend."  The way things are now, someone of any org can be resed by someone of any org.  Unless the resser knows the target, this can result in bringing back someone from another org. Sure, you can target the dead person and use variables or /who to find out their faction (if they have one) but if the player or faction isn't known, it's still a matter of guesswork whether it will be a friend or foe being brought back to life.  This is what makes res balanced as it is.  Since the corrected system rightly removes all flags and states at death, there is no game mechanic which would make "Red Ressing" possible.  Whether it was  incidental or deliberate, "Blue Ressing" is by design and that's the way it should be.
I'm very pleased that the game mechanics support my position because the alternative is tantamount to removing res altogether.  Even a [technically impossible under the current system] dialog along the lines of "Reviving this RSI will allow other players to attack you as hostile.  Proceed?" would be a farce, as it would effectively remove Doctors from PvP altogether, which seems to be aim of those who complain that Doctors actually have one useful ability. Consider the following situation.  Loaded as Doctor, a player is running a mission with a team.  He happens upon a dead player.  Being the helpful sort (the type who goes Doctor in the first place) he decides to res the hapless fellow.  Ooops!  The dead guy had been PvPing, and now the good Samaritan is flagged and, having no decent defensive or offensive abilities, is soon dead himself, probably from an incredibly cowardly type of player who attacks those who can not possibly harm the attacker or defend themselves.  So much for the Team and Mission the doctor was trying to be a part of.  Let's say one of his Teammates comes to his rescue, after diverting to a hardline to load res.  Well, now he's flagged too.  This is forcing people to PvP when they don't want to, which would negate the whole idea of a non-hostile server.  If you want all PvP all the time with no Blue Ressers, go to Vector.  If you are on Recursion or Syntax, accept the fact that you do not have the right to force people to flag when they don't want to; that's reserved for the admins.  I question the moral substance of those who would want to kill even a flagged Doctor.  These are usually the same people who complain about tactics boosters not being "honorable" but then turn around and kill a defenseless doctor who's only trying to help people.  We've had more than enough of the type who think that anything that doesn't guarantee them a PvP kill needs to be "fixed."  There are fair, balanced and correct mechanisms in place which allow the possibility of withdrawal, retreat and recovery and this is as it should be.

Whilst I can't say I dislike the current animation for signal booster, (I actually think the phasing in and out of transparency/translucency looks quite good) I have to agree with PS10N here.

The only comment I can make is that if in a PVP situation one side is flagged and ready and the other side are blue and being buffed in front of the opposing side, waiting for all members to be buffed before flagging up, it's a bit cheeky!

Wow, I'm stunned.  Now I feel like anything is possible...  We agree on something.  Kissy kissy make up?  No, didn't think so.

I hope this isn't the official miracle for this year, though I will put it way up there in the improbable and unexpected range.

Just because we have... differences in opinion on political terms, doesn't mean I have disagree with you over Simulation protocals! This is possibly one topic we could agree on so depending on how many more sensible... queries you post about system protocals, don't expect many more supporting posts by me.

#36300335763 10/10/2007 14:53:11 Re:Update 55 Discussion

Only reason I even mentioned blue rezzing and buffing is because people complain about it all the time.. personally, I have no strong stance for or against it.  To me, blue rezzing is the same as reconstruction.  I have no beef with buffing or doctors or anything like that at the moment.

My problem is using counter-concealment tool against a flagged player.. and not becoming flagged.  Along that line of reasoning: the disable evasion tool/ability should also not flag someone who uses it (though it does, and rightly so).

Best things about this patch;
CC works,
Whitehallways are great,
Shadow pills are fantastic,
Portable signal booster animation isn't so flashy.

Are the Headless all missing from Mars Industrial Storage on Recursion again?  A Trial player hit level 5 and was plowing his way down in to the Hideout.  I was waiting for his "*CENSORED*?! Headless?!" reaction but it never came because none ever showed their.... faces.

Any hope for the new barely-even-there Signal Booster Dish animation getting a (very) few small trailing code symbols?  Just a little added sparkley so it can be noticed?

Anybody gone searching for all the White Hallways doors in International? I think it'd be helpful for people to know all the locations and such, and make it kinda fun from an RP standpoint that you could be in a chase and go into the White Hallways.

btw, I wish that more of the White Hallways doors teleported, even if just a random spot in the Megacity got chosen each time you clicked on a door. we don't need to know where exactly each doors leads everytime heh
