MXO has always worked fine for me. Today out of the blue, the launcher stopped working.

When I open it, it will load to the line "Client version... xxxxx" and then stop. Doesn't even give me the option to log in.

The only other time I've had this was on my brother's computer, if I tried to open MXO on a non-admin account. But I've tried the client on both my account and the root Administrator account, and nothing works. I'm stumped. It doesn't let me do a system check, and I have tried copying the launcher.

ping to/from login.thematrixonline.com works fine.

Just check Internet Explorer hasn't been set to work offline as that causes the launcher to freeze at that point.

The only other thing that might be causing it is your firewall blocking it at some point, but my best guess would point to IE.

IExplore is working fine and has connection.

my firewall is set to autoallow MXO and IE access, and the problem persists when I turn the firewall off.

I have several ideas to help but they are all to tech-involved to risk posting instructions which may not cover the exact problem you are having.  You have my AIM, Bayamos.  Contact me there and we'll try to hack thru this problem together, hopefully in time for the events today, tomorrow and Friday.

It might be worth noting that between the period of Sunday to today, I installed a program called Hamachi which emulates a LAN over internet so that remote computers can play LAN games together. This included a network adapter driver or something.

I have since uninstalled it, but MXO still does not work. A system restore to Sunday also resulted in no change.

I wish IE was "Working Offline" because that would be an easy fix, but such doesn't seem to be the case.

If I wait long enough, MXO prompts:

What is your firewall?

Installing a VPN client that provides it's own virtual adapters can often break a third party software firewall. You may need to remove and reinstall you firewall.

I recently ran into an almost identical problem with Sygate Personal Firewall and the Juniper provided NetScreen Remote VPN client.

The fix was: remove both firewall and VPN client. reinstall VPN client THEN reinstall firewall.

Did the Firewall removal/reinstall do the trick?

This has happened to me, just reinstall it.

....

I uninstalled and reinstalled.

When I started after a fresh install, it worked. I opened it, it went past the "client version line," downloaded a launcher patch, and told me patching complete, restart required.

Restarted launcher, and it's broke again, hangs at the exact same spot. Sigggggggggggggggggh.

Also, now every single time I open my launcher, this page opens in IE: https://secure.station.sony.com/mxo/wblogin.vm

Uninstalling and reinstalling MXO was my last resort, really. I don't have the time or backup capacity to reinstall Windows these days. If I can't find a simple fix, I'm going to have to quit.

try to reinstall TCP IP...

it can really make a difference..

You dont have to reinstall xp for that..

reset TCP/IP with netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt; no difference.

I've also tried making a separate new user account just for MXO that has no set preferences.. that is also broken. its something global. :\

Bay,

As sucky as this sounds i had that issue on a diff computer and the  only thing that (unfortunately) worked was a reinstall of xp pro w/sp2..
Mxo was the first thing i installed (and patched) after all the xp updates and my NAV (honestly...xp firewall really does do the job). ZoneAlarm can be Hinky.....and a quick question..when you reinstalled your FW, upon uninstall did you go thru and remove all reg keys too?, same with Mxo...upon uninstall did you do a 'complete' uninstall...as in the program file folder...all teh hidden stuff in the application folder (docs) the reg keys and all that?
