Does Zion and all the other redpills know about the previous iterations of the matrix where it was reset after the One (before Neo) rebuilt Zion? When Neo found out he didn't tell anyone so if they do know how did they find out?

It could be a myth within Zion because the men and women Neo's predecessor saved from the matrix must have past on their knowledge and 100 years later it could have become a myth.

The Machines and the Merovingian are aware of it as they have lived through them all but would they tell their redpills about it?

First off we don't know that Neo never told anyone. We know that when on the Neb after first comeing back he didn't feel the need to explain it further then what he did but there are still larage amounts of time that the movies don't acount for in which Neo could have told Morpheus or the rest of the the Hammer's crew what he had been told.

In fact I'm certain that he would have at least told Morpheus seeings as it was he who put so much into the prophacy and would need a full explination as to why Neo was not the one who was going to save them.

And actully the Merv and Machines have droped a few hints about past interations. There are two events with Malphas explaining teh very first matrix and the one that he came from to redpills.

If the Merv or someone told a redpill, that said redpill would spread it around. So yes, we know of past iterations, especially someone whose done the Pandora's box arc. There was an event with the Architect where I think he said it, and I believe a Neo RSI frag had something.

Yes, redpills will know of past versions of the matrix because of Constructs, Pandora's box and Live events. I'm talking about past iterations where the same version (version 3) is reset when the One fulfills his/her purpose.

Neo could have told Morpheus what happened but wouldn't have Morpheus talked about it in MxO when he was alive? I wasn't around then but if he did talk about past Ones or past iterations then yes, redpills will know of past iterations too.

It's just assumed that at some point Morpheus would have told someone and word of mouth would do its thing. Also if you look on the atlas and read the info on Rogers Way it mentions that Rogers Way was named for an ex Zion op that helped a former "One" get to the source meaning that redpills are supose to know about the past iterations.

It seems that the redpills never knew about anything like that but the exiles did but were not inclined to inform them until they thought it was too late for zion to do anything about it. IE the merv saying he's survived Neo's predasesors, the train man taunting Niobe in ETM about how long Zion lasted last time, etc.

In likelyhood, the machines went to great lengths to ensure that the redpills in each iteration would not know about the prevous cycle as that would be a illusion breaker.

Finally, such a statement would have to be backed up my In the Real proof otherwise it would be considered a lie implanted by the machines.

We're still within Neo's iteration of the Matrix, which makes past ones somewhat irrelevant. If it were to reset now, without the destruction of Zion or any of us attached to it, then we'd certainly know of the sixth one and then the following seventh.

It can be assumed that the Merovingian, The Oracle, The Architect, Neo, and many programs (and Exiles) know about certain details of the past iterations. But anything further would be speculation.

Yeah, this has been my mindset about the previous iterations. By now I think with the Merv spouting about the past iterations that we know about it, but other than that I agree.

Correct.

And how often do players get to meet with the Merv and have him reveal to them, specifically, something important? I don't mean critical missions, though. Figure that stuff is common knowledge. I think a clever backstory could contain something to help you stand out, but we're pretty much even in our knowledge. Aside from those who like figuring out the complex puzzles and live events ran by the LESIG. There's a few bits and pieces that were once known by only a handful of people, but it's easily spread itself on to others over time.

For example, the Watchmaker and the Joker storylines as well as how it tied in with 991 and Scanline.

I think paying attention to these events can show that your RP persona, your Redpill toon, can vouch that they know or discovered something rather remarkable about the Matrix. I think by remaining true to the canonical environment and metaplot of this game, we are sticking to one of the features we were promised of this game when it was first announced. We're a part of the Matrix storyline as it unfolds beyond the third movie.

Which is kinda' nifty.
