Following the establishment of the truce "factions" of redpills began to surface throughout Zion. The Machines began recruiting redpills and forming factions of their own to counter the efforts of Zion which gave birth to a cold war.
The Merovingian, always keeping a watchful eye on all Mega City business, stuck his hands into the surging redpill populations as well and inserted redpill factions into his organization. Enticing them with $information, power, and free reign throughout the matrix just as long as they served him. For those that would choose to betray him, they would die.
Redpills that rejected the way of Zion quickly migrated to the Merovingian. More and more redpill factions surfaced in his organization. Many with different trades and interests. Some political and chose not to get involved with the dirty work while others didn't mind the field operations. With the Merovingian's resources, his redpills were trained in business, espionage, and combat like many of his most trusted Exiles.
Though the Merovingian's organization expanded, they were still not part of the truce. They were enemies of the system which put them right in the crosshairs of the Zionist and Machinist.
The Merovingian knew that if war broke out again he would indeed profit from it but his existence would be at stake. If Zion won it would mean the end of the matrix... and if the Machines were to wipe out Zion for good, they could launch a full scale assault on the entire Exile population and the redpills aligned with them.
So the Merovingian took more aggressive measures. He strengthen his organization with redpill factions dedicated to combating Zion and Machine forces at all cost.
Shortly after Inguss' arrival into the Merovingian's organization...
after completing a mission in eliminating a rebellion lead by a treacherous Exile traitor...
Inguss was granted the right to form a faction of his own....
A faction that would unleash ruthless aggression on Zion and Machine alike when need be... and given Inguss' bluepill background as a former special forces operative-- on to becoming a redpill through his journey as the anomaly from the fifth iteration of the matrix-- topped off with his extreme hate for Zion, Inguss was perfect for the job.
mav·er·ick An independent individual who does not go along with a group or party. We don't conform to the ideals of Zion. We won't be bounded by the rules of the Machines. We reign free in the Matrix.
And So it began... Inguss assembled a faction known as the "Dark Mavericks". The Merovingian stationed the Dark Mavericks in one of the most dangerous sectors in the matrix, known as "Enumerator".
Captain Ridata, DrSmith, and DarkHaze aided Commander Inguss in the fight to contain Zion's surging redpill population... Zion hunted Merovingian operatives relentlessly due to the Merovingian hiring the Assassin to eliminate Morpheus. The Zionites were out for blood so the Dark Mavericks as well as many more factions of the Merovingian organization did their best in not letting Zion's wishes come to past.
After a successful campaign in the enumerator sector, DM relocated to Vector to make a mess of things for Zion and the Machines.
As time went on many things came to past such as: the death of Morpheus, the rise of splinter organizations like E Pluribus Neo and the Cypherites. However, the biggest event to hit the underworld of the matrix was: the end of the truce.
That's right. Thanks to Zionites creating a new human city known as "New Zion". The Machines consider Zion's actions a violation of the truce and have disallowed Zionites to enter the matrix and awaken bluepills.
The Merovingian chose to take full advantage of the new war and profit from it... and with that he gave Inguss and the Dark Mavericks a very difficult task. Due to the war the Merovingian wanted to ensure that all his assets were well protected during the reckless days ahead of them. So he assigned the Dark Mavericks on not one but three sectors of the matrix to aid his organization: Vector, Recursion, and Syntax.

The Dark Mavericks are versatile. On the scorched earth their fleet of hovercrafts do their best to slip by Sentinel and Zionite detections. With the Merovingian's resources the Dark Mavericks continue to strengthen the organization as well as themselves. They've built several installations hidden in the mountains of the real on their highest peaks for Merovingian operatives to jack in through stations.
The Dark Mavericks home base is hidden in the Grand Canyon. It's known as: "Synergy I". Synergy I is a huge installation that was constructed by Mavericks with the help of many reprogrammed Machines now under the control of the Merovingian. It's underground and unaware of by the Machines.

We have jack-in stations for those of our operatives that can't stand the real world. Along with our redpill hovercrafts we have exile units that are a part of our faction.
Our hovercrafts navigate through the canyon on a routine broadcast while jacked into the matrix as well as aid any fellow Merovingian operatives in need of assistance in the real.
We have EMP turrets throughout the canyon such as key navigational points to counter any hostile threats. We travel through the sewers only when necessary. Due to the increased hovercraft traffic and Sentinel patrols and seeing that the war is back... the sewers must be a mad house.
"The body cannot live without the mind"
Many of our fellow Merovingian operatives spend so much time in the matrix that they don't bother to think about the measures that must be taken to ensure our survival in the real. That is what we think about every single day.
Now here we are. Maintaining a presence on all three sectors of the matrix for the sake of the Merovingian's organization. We've been pitted against the best of them and have lost many friends and outstanding operatives along the way due to the cold war, but we're still standing.
We are the Dark Mavericks. The red and black attack. We specialize in politics, espionage, assassinations, and combat. We are here... and we're not going anywhere.
