I see a lot of posts lauding mainsteam movies....what about the others, like independents, foreign films and classic movies of yesteryear?

I saw a really good German movie called "Downfall" this week, its about the last 10 days of the Third Reich.  It was really good, really horrific.

As far as independents, I recently saw "Wedding Belles" which was authored by the same guy who wrote "Trainspotting" and it's got a very similar style.  Excellent.

And old movies, I recently saw "Monsieur Verdoux" by Charlie Chaplin (a talkie).  It was wonderful.

Anyone else have any good Independent/Foreign/Classic movie picks?

Anything by British director Shane Meadows.

This Is England is quite well known around here, but not mainstream for certain.
Dead Man's Shoes is also amazing.
