is there a way to find out if an area is restricted without going there?

if not, then:
Wouldn't it be nice if restricted areas would be indicated on the map or atlas?

Sadly there is no indication apart from going there, I am a nerd and just worked from a list ticking them off as I went so I knew which ones I had unlocked as I went.

Same with the HLs

The map and atlas have a colour code method of showing you which areas are restricted by showing them as red. I think it is right most of the time but it can be wrong.

Do they?  It's not something I have ever noticed

No, those colours show the level range of the enemies, at least thats what I think.  If you start a new character and look around, most of it is purple with parts of Richland red and orange and as you level, the colours change in the normal colour chain....

Purple > Red > Orange

Yellow, Blue, Green and Grey dont show on the map as they are considered safe to explore.

any location in international, downtown, and westview will be restricted to you unless you have hacked the node for that location
