I have heard many people mention that they find that although PVP is fun, there is very little point to it. You attack someone because he is flagged and you can kill someone if they're flagged but there is no meaning behind the attack. This got me thinking. What if there was a way to setup up the map of Megacity with "territories" marked for each of the orgs. Then, as you PVP it could be for defending or expanding these territories. I'm not really sure how to keep track of the expansion of territories, although it would be easy to just have something like a control point, but it would be more interesting if it was somehow just based on the PVP kills of one faction versus the others.

Either way, I think something needs to be done to make PVP a little more worth while.

Thoughts?

Boy could I tell you something about PvP. SMILEY

I belong to the very large group of people who have been 50 since 3 weeks after launch, have every ability, have done every neighbourhood mission, etc - pretty much done everything there is to do in MxO. So for me the main reason I keep logging in is PvP.

And while it can be "fun" as you stated it - it does become boring very quickly due to some certain reasons.

a) numbers always win. You can tell me all sorts of BS about tactics as much as you like but for the most part I am right. If you have a team of 3 and the others have a team of 5 - you will get your *CENSORED* kicked 99% of the time. There is no "controlled PvP environment" such as the Battlegrounds that were mentioned above. People keep mentioning the Archives - but the same rule(s) about numbers apply here.

b) PvP means absolutely nothing. Never has. CQs don't mean anything. There is never a victor or a loser - and if there is the perception of such it is only because of a) - Team XYZ had the better numbers. There are NO repurcussions from losing and absolutely nothing to gain from "winning".

I almost feel stupid writing about this because these are the same arguments the community has made for the last 18-24 months and nothing has happened.

There are a LOT of players who find their greatest MxO fun in PvP - and I believe if the devs do not act on this issue soon enough - they will FINALLY lose a great part of their player base because when even PvP starts to be boring - what else is there to do and to pay $15 / Month for.

I agree, although pvp in MxO has been boring since the Monolith days. The only way the devs can make the pvp somewhat meaningful is by making it live event based, i.e. Agent Gray wants all Machinists to rack up X amount of CQ points to quell Y's rebellion; Gray then gives FM-1500 or some such item to the most bloodthirsty player. Other than that, there was talk about org-specific abilities and pvp items and whatnot, but all that died with the exile of HCFrog.

Like you Miggs, I come back for pvp (and the story, but that's a different topic), and lately thought that by rolling on Vector I still had a reason to justify why I still play this game. But, I was re-introduced to why MxO is so hard to love, and that is its mission system. I can't bear another lv50 grind, no matter how much I want to gank lv16 noobs, so I'm currently trying to find another game that satisfies me on both story and gameplay aspects.

Like everything in the Matrix universe, balance needs to be prevalent, and here the story takes precedence over gameplay, which is why we don't have nearly the numbers WoW has.

Well thats exactly my point really. Give people something to fight over. Then you'd have a something to stay for.
If only SoE would input more funds into this game...

Wait, was that a pig that just flew across my window?

I wonder what a dev's thoughts on this would be. Especially if it was done in constructs.
I could probably tell you right now: "We are currently testing other developments at this time but we'll look into it." Heck, probably not even the latter, but you can bet he'll say just enough to keep you coughing up $$$. That's his job, after all.
