There's been threads like this before but meh...

What does your character/crew/faction names mean? Why did you choose them?

I find names to be one of the most important aspects in character creation as it's the first thing people will look at when they see you ingame. Not only that, but the names in the movies usually have important meanings too. It saddens me when I see random names with seemingly little meaning but nevermind that.

I'll post my own tomorrow. Not tonight because I'm going to bed and it's a long, long list.

Well, the name ties into my chars story. He self substantiated from the Matrix, but it felt like a part of him died, alot of him. The name comes from this quote:

Jason Ixios is dead, I'm just the Shadow that Grieves for him

"Oranos", I always figured it to be a translation/corruption of Uranus, the Sky God. You had mentioned something like that in one of your sigs

Oranos: At the time of getting the Matrix Online (Last 2 weeks of Beta or something close to that), I was playing a game called the "Age of Mythologies", and Oranos was the name given to the Greek God of the Sky and King of the Titans. So yes it's a variation on Uranus. I think my first choice was Anubis but it was taken.

Sonaro: Obviously Oranos backwards. In RP terms he's supposed to be Oranos' opposite or yang.

Veive: Etruscan God of Revenge. A variation of Veiovis....and as taken from wiki: "the particle ve- that prefixes the name of the god also appears in Latin words such as vesanus, "insane," ". The RP reasons for the name will be shown whenever I get around to starting my new story (History coursework is currently engraved into my mind.)

Samael: Means "Venom of God", and can be associated with the Angel of Death.

Azrail: Variation of Azrael, and is known as an Angel of Death.

Altariel: An alternate name for Galadriel in Lord of the Rings. I actually found that by accident, but liked it.

Apollyon: A demon known as "The Destroyer".

Izanami:A Goddess of both Creation and Death. Izanami is a coder so I thought that was appropriate.

Those are my Vector characters. Listing the Syntax and Recursion characters would take the whole thread page SMILEY However crew/faction:

Caedo Ex Gratia: Should be Latin for "Fallen From Grace". As the Faction are Cypherites it could be considered that the "fall" is their Awakening. It also has several other meanings, at least one of which I'll go into in my story.

0rdo Ab Chao: Order out of Chaos.

Animadverto Ab Somnium: Reality out of Dreams.

Anima Ab Mortalitas Life out of Death.

Terra Nova: Latin for "New World". They fight for the Machines to bring about a new, better world.

Aether Ab Abyssus: Heaven out of Hell.

Restituo Ab Perditio: Repair out of Destruction

Pax Ab Bellum: Peace out of War.

Jeez, that was tiring.

PBlade - Totally spur of the moment, and in retrospect, a pretty crap decision. But I later learnt it's a make of motherboard, so it has technical connotation after all.

Terracus - Not so spur of the moment, but totally ficticious a name. 'Terra' is, of course, the reference to ground, signifying his grounded outlook on everything, but 'cus' is just something to make it sound good.

Neurosia - A sickened state of mind. She's a paranoid woman, and Neurosthenia relates to paranoia, so there we go.

Oh, and I didn't name the Children of Zion, but I think it's pretty self explanatory.

You know, I don't know what Twaggy truly means. Could someone find out?

EDIT: noes, I'm now depressed....

"Verb. To play traunt. E.g."No wonder he failed his exams, he's been twagging for most of the last year." [Hull/Lincolnshire use]"
