got so ticked off at the lack of content in this game last year, I pulled the plug

here it is 11 some odd months later, I return, what has changed?

there are archive missions, lots of bug fixes, events came and went, modification of the abiltiy trees

before I left I came off as being angry at the devs for the lack of progress this game was going at, and I was wrong, I did not work on a mmo, I had no place to say that

all being said.... a year later... I am sickened at the lack of progress here, its expected that cr 2.0 is going to be a buggy mother so its expected alot of work was needed, however, even with the bugs... more should have been developed in this time frame

I know the devs have been trying to keep the live events going, its *CENSORED* good of them to do that, however walrus should light a fire under everyone's asses on content

just saying whats been brewing for almost a year, and should be considered player feedback, and not a flame

Ummm... who are you to comment on the devs and what has been going on in the game? There have been substantial improvements and new content added to the game. But maybe you didn't take the time to see it.

First of all, good to see you back BP. I saw you waxed by a 255 Agent Wong at the party in Baldwin Heights, that was enjoyable. SMILEY

Content is an ongoing and contentious issue, but as MxO still appears to be an underfunded and bargain basement SOE Station Pass afterthought, it's hard to see what the people we do have, Rarebit et al, can do to set everyone's hair on fire. Me and mine just spent the better part of 3 months working on a project we delivered to the Community this week that included FRAPS, RP posts, comics, graphic novels, and an in-game event this evening . . . but is it too little too late?

I agree with Mercio, they have worked realy hard to give us what they do. its only a smal dev team and its better than nothing! If i was a dev and read this i would of thought..FINE Why the *CENSORED* should i work for them when they dont appreicate what we do do!

I think CountZero had it best.

Compared to what a fully funded dev team and LET were able to accomplish, SOE's management has been a joke.
But with what dev team we have... they're doing fairly well.

In the end SOE created a vicious circle/self-fulfilling prophecy.
They decided MxO wouldn't be profittable enough to support a full dev and LE team
Without a full dev and LE team more people leave, less are encouraged to stay after trying
MxO isn't profittable enough to support a full dev and LE team.

I have seen so many complaints about a lack of content, I really have to ask this question:

What is content? I mean, the real, actual definition of what game content really is?

Because I consider this game to have a lot of things to do. So many, in fact, I still haven't done them all. Is it that people lack the imagination to get the most out of this game? Or is it more due to the fact that I just don't know what to expect and therefore I'm happy with what I have?

This is not me being facetious, I really want to know. Why do people feel that there is no content in this game?

I have to agree with shin, I think this game has a lot of content and plenty to do, maybe not once you get to 50, but I think just about every MMO out there has a problem with end game content, and seeing as how this game does have a small dev team I think the things they have implemented have been dynamite compared to what I might expect from a similar game with a similarly small staff. Still, with three major ability trees each with its own set of sub trees, tons of abilities, lots of places to go and see, and a great community of involved players and devs who really do try to make the most of this game, I think theres quite a bit going on for MxO.

mxo under soe has became "filler" for the station access pass, not getting the needed funding to open the game up, just maintain it

I have seen and worked with "small" mmo developers in the past and present, to say well its just a small dev team, they can't be expected to do so and so, however mxo's data structure is quite complex compared to other mmos, soe knows this, yet they do not give the funds to expand and correct some of the redunant data structures that mxo has

this is going around and around, so to sum it up I am saying Soe, needs to stop treating mxo as just another mmo, they are funding the game as if it was another mmo, however mxo is quite a bit more complex than just another mmo, and its really eating up the dev's time just maintaining the game

maybe...

if not maybe this can spur the idea of making mxo more streamlined, to develop

something like adding a vendor onto the game's map could totally screw up a district... it should not be so, having to work around such strict restrictions would slow down the greatest coder on the planet

Maybe this is exactly the reason. They have to spend resources on devs the one or the other way, and doing it for MxO would be both less profitable considering the player base, and less efficient because the coding is teh suck.

I only rely on what I've heard from others, not on my own experience here...

I think it comes down to the fact that other, more popular games, simply have significantly *more* content. You might think it's a lot because you probably don't play as much, but the "hardcore gamers" spend more time on it, and for them, the content here is lacking in quantity.

And as far as we define end game content as something you can do only at max level, MxO has very little. A few features that are actually a continuation of previous content on lower levels. In other games, you reach level 50, and see a ton of new content opened for you.

"Content" is basically anything there is to do in the game (I suppose static). Someone who says raiding dungeons or running text based contact missions isn't content is wrong. There are people whom you can present a list of the couple hundred story missions this game has, with the reaction "this isn't content, this game just consists of missions". Also wrong.
But I suppose these things are valid as subjective quality or worth measure.

Maybe it's rather "Why the hell should we try if they appreciate everything we do anyway"?

I personally don't like it when I'm appreciated or praised for something that isn't that impressive, from my point of view. It's nice on a personal level, but rather silly on a "professional" one.

Besides the archival missions and regular sub-chapter releases, the white hallways and Binary Boy (Area K TrenchCoat) were released as permanent content. Pretty much the rest of 2006 was spent on the Halloween and Winter holiday events. There were major improvements and players seemed to have a lot of fun, but if you weren't there, it wasn't content for you. Now we've got the RSI pills and the anniversary event is around the corner. Again, you'll have to be there, but at least it will be story-based. After that, I'm hoping the devs will concentrate more on permanent content and get a good chunk of new gameplay out there for everyone.
