Holy Schnikies!

If Blue Sky and Unlimit were Canon, I sure don't see why the return of Smith* wouldn't be.*Technically, his second return, since he briefly manifested himself in Syntax's first machine liason, DifferenceEngine. He was taken to the Source to be delted.
I don't think Blue Sky was canon.
Yes, it was. Chadwick made a Sentinel for it.
Plus I recall a canon critical mission after the Blue Sky event (most likely in chapter 4.3) where an NPC said something to the effect of "You know, I think some Sleepwalkers may have escaped destruction".
And yes, it has been said that this anniversary is more like the Halloween and Winter celebrations, and those are normally seen as non-canon.
Edit: At least this celebration will allow me to roleplay as Smith. That's something I've wanted to sink my teeth into for some time.

Appearances can be deceiving, Mr. Anderson.
It's time for revenge.
The Smith is gonna hit the fan
Sweet!

I was going to order a new desktop in a few weeks, but after seeing that it's getting ordered by the end of this week.
Holy Schnikes indeed!
*passes out*
Foolish moves cause disasters.
Now the question is, why now? Has the loss of efficiency caused some of the more... vital... exiles into hiding? We all know Smith was simply biding his time, but why not longer? Does he feel the corrupted Matrix is now at it's weakest?
Or is it simply because of the General... I always thought he had such capabilities. After a small note in one of the first Sentinels depicting the Red Eyes with the ability to take over people, I thought he had it in him.
And though I hadn't thought about it in quite a while, I always wondered if the General was but another pawn... He's been acting so irrational, so... un-General-like.
As for the One returning... They aren't polar opposites. Smith is what I suppose could be called a triple negative - the One and the Source cancel each other out. Smith interjected himself into the equation and made all sorts of crazy *poop*.
Either way. WOOTCICLES!
Another Unlimit/Sleepwalker/Zombie event where NPC's come to kill us, can't wait.True, true.
Hopefully something with a little more imagination this time XD
PLEASE LORD dont make the story say they look like smith, don't try to thinly veil whats not there - just have their difference explained.
But aye, looks to be an interesting event.
Smith Virus sightings i know of so far:
Agent Gray
DifferenceEngine
Shane Black and his infectees
That looks cool, but I'm starting to think the following...
The "Smith" Virus will be the luggable ingame, and you can use it to effect others, say much like the corruption pulse.
Now lets say that's true, then it will be around for a while, will it be considered as a temporaly glitch of the old virus for canon reasons?
I personally don't believe its meant to be true storyline canon, I mean I can see how aspects of it could still be about, but not a return of smith, not yet anyway.
Someone's been running around as a redpill version of Shane Black (remember him from the Smith virus LESIG event?) lately. Any relation to this?
But seriously...why is he on fire...that seems...lame...
Because fire is cool!
In all seriousness, I believe the fire is just for effect of the image itself. Fire not only represents destruction but it also plays into the passage quoted on Smith's Audi in Reloaded:
"Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy." ~ Isaiah 54:16

Well if the icon that Rarebit posted is anything to go by then it would indeed seem to include fire - which i too find... lame.
I also share the concerns of Mr.Aq - the story here better be handled carefully ¬.¬
an animation/attack that consists of the agent shoving his hand into you and converting you into a smith - once that happens you get the move too and can infect people with it
Jesus that'd be cool!!!
Hells yeah!
Mulitpl3x FTW.
Let the fun begin!

Bagsy being The Thing! It's clobbering time!
So, have ShaneBlack and his buddies been multiplying?
Illyria
PS: "Hey Smith...there are some redpills out there who worship Mr. Anderson -- you can tell who they are by the 'EPN' in their names. Why not pay them a little visit?"

Fire removes that which no longer has a use. Then, it gives life to the seed!
Fear not my young ones. The Master has always been with you!

Make sure to visit the Michael Poppers Display! Its as easy as 1-2-3 to kill him!!!
We all know Smith was simply biding his time, but why not longer? Does he feel the corrupted Matrix is now at it's weakest?Biding nothing! Shane Black...that machine dude...Gray...and don't forget Smith's blog. Although the canonitiy of that is under slight confusion...there's arguments for and against that. -_- And of course the bunny and the walrus never comment on stuff like that...oh, I'll take his bucket for sure this time...but the point is, Smith has been trying entirely too hard to get a second shot.
i so hope it looks like it did in the movies

(((ooc I was wondering when someone would mention that. Now back to rp)))
No.... not again...... The nightmare images....... The deeds done in the skin of another...... I thought I put all this behind me!
Suddenly it seemed as though everything were connected in an intricate manner, everything from the present back to people reporting that they've turned into Agents and couldn't control their characters back in beta...
I think we'll be able to catch it and be a "one in a million" Smith!
I wanna see Dezreki beg on his knees for neo to save him while Smith buries him alive.I quite literally laughed out loud. hahahaha!

P.S. Raaaaaaaaarebit... is it possible to give the "Smith" model more of a receeding hairline? Pweety pweeze? I mean, we have to deal with bald Ghost and 25 year old Architect already

Yeah! Just use Sykin's RSI for Smith, jeez. Only with blue eyes.True that. Especially since Sykin is all blonde-haired and glowy now, there won't be any conflict

Ok, reality check time.
As cool as it would be to face off with the Smith Virus, lets remember that past behavior is a good indicator of future behavior. And this is MxO. That having been said, let me borrow some words from PIL's The Order of Death:
This is what you want:
This is what you get:
Good luck folks!
and don't forget Smith's blog.

Uh, I mean, I have NO idea who roleplayed THAT Smith guy.
Hypothetically speaking, if I did know who roleplayed that guy and edited those pictures, I would probably guess he's glad he didn't do a lot more with the character as originally intended for a player event (and thus mess up the image of Smith somehow, like that "I'm Shane Black and I'm back from the deeeEEAAaaaAAAd!" guy. Phony.)
And that person is probably laughing at all the "Smith Followers" that wanted to help him out.
R.I.P. Assimilated.
<_<
If this going to be fully Canonised then I think I have a pretty good idea what Seraph's up to.
Anyone thinking what I'm thinking?
Cool.))
