My friend is letting me use her old account to create a character. The character was originally on my account, but I deleted him off today. So, I go through the whole character creation process on her account and type him in with the same name. I get the infamous "character name already claimed" message. I had *just* deleted him (like there was maybe a period of 5-10 minutes in between the deletion and creation), so I don't think anyone could've claimed the name in that little of an amount of time.

So after that, I make a new character in the now empty Recursion spot on my account, thinking it will overwrite any old account info so that the character I deleted can't ever be recovered. Got the new character up to level 3, logged out, then went back to my friend's account to make the new character. Still says the name is claimed.

I really need this character (it's RP-related), and I don't know what else to do to let the game know that the old version of it is gone. Is there some sort of waiting period where the server needs to know that the character is gone? Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know not matter what after a name is used you can't use it again.

I could be wrong and I would expect phi or jeffers to correct me if I am SMILEY.

But you can use the name so long as it's recreated under your account, right?

hmm ok I just did a test and it let me use the same name again. So I would say yes that if the name was first used on the the account then you should be able to use it again.

Key word, should :/

Okay, you're right, it worked. Thanks. SMILEY

Just to confirm.

Once you claim a character name it is permanently tied to the master account that was used at the time of claiming it. Even if you delete the character, the name is only freed up for use by that master account. Ie:

Account A makes character Bob.
Account A deletes character Bob - freeing up name.
Account B tries to make character Bob - gets an error.
Account A remakes character Bob.

Apparently this set up is to do with the way that the old AIM system worked and with how the current Mail system works and is to avoid identity theft.

Chuui's post is spot on.

When a name is created under an account it is then tied to account and can't be applied to another. SMILEY

Plus the emails are nice and snug in the "void" of a claimed character. ^.^ So you can send any of your old junk to an alt, delete him, and use that extra slot for whatever the heck you feel like, and when you need to whip something out just free up some space and grab that alt!

Warning: Use Only if your Extra space is kept Free-able.
