People want power. It's been that way for a long time, as far as I can tell, and I don't expect it will change any time soon. The Matrix was supposed to keep people from getting power--real power--but then we had to throw the 1% wrinkle in, and here we are. Is it worth it? The 1%, the One--they were all supposed to stop deaths, stop the killing. Oh, not of the 1%, of course--they were written off anyway--but the other ninety-nine. But nowadays we have things like code bombs and super-powered Unlimit killing bystanders left and right. Oh, sure, they get taken care of eventually, but other problems will come along in the same way.

The Machines think they can fix the problem by getting more control. But the more you prevent people from getting power, the harder they'll try. What can we do? None of the obvious paths seem possible: remove the power, remove the people, or change the people. Can we do any of those? Should we? Boy, this is a real stumper.

Its times like this....that I remember the words that were taught to me long ago.

Kill them all, let their god sort them out. Everyone is given the choice, but as its said, every choice has consequence. Now, people want to overstep bounds.....they think its their right to do so. Thats all well and good...except I have a rifle, and a whole team of people with rifles, that say you cant.

My purpose is like that of the bayonet.

KILL KILL KILL

Hmm, interesting.  The Oracle doesn't think Anome will live much longer.  I wonder how it will end.

I wonder if she knows.

To every answer, there seem to be more questions.

There is always a time for action, a time to right wrongs. And sometimes that involves killing.  But to be honest, for personal reasons, I think Anome deserves more than a simple killcode. But it is far out of my right to say that is worth the risk of more lives. So whatever needs to be done, will be done by someone eventually, regardlesss. And Anome will be stopped, as he should have realized as soon as he used that vial. And from there, I'd bet not even the Oracle is sure.

Wow congratulations on meeting the Oracle!! (and getting those cookies SMILEY )

 That was really neat!

I dont know...maybe the General? You know....the guy thats been in the shadows trying to play puppet master since the beginning? The one that I've been told is not a priority since he decided to disapear.

I don't think she is talking about something more powerful. At least, not in the same sense as the destructive power that Seraph was talking about.

#36300096679 11/15/2006 23:23:37 Re:[6.1.5] Would you kill him? - Recursion - 11/14/06
The Oracle practicing Socratic Method?  She's usually on the receiving end of the questions.

Glad to know I don't have her completely figured out just yet.  SMILEY

That was such a cool event.

Just a couple of people, no spam, and humble enough not to think that they know everything.  Made it alot easier to read too.

I'm sure two people just had their best day in MxO ever.

See that little level 6 guy?  I will guaruntee that he'll be with MxO for some time now.  Stuff like this really shows off how special this game can be.

The best part...after it was over, that little level 6 joined my faction.

But honestly, Nephilix, I'm so jealous of you guys. I've wanted a chance to speak to the Oracle in a smaller meeting for a long time. Never once have I came close.

Congrats.

Best do some more research. Cuse in the other thread she already said that The General aint what shes worrying about now.

The emphasis is on power: who wants it and who has it.

She alluded to the fact that, right now, the Machines have the power. And want more. She also practically came out and said that the Machines solution, killing Anome , may not be the best solution. Or the right solution.

Perhaps she wants us to remember our humanity and compassion?

((Wow. Never before have I heard of such an intimate meeting for operatives. What an honor for Nephillix and Gladius! And well played, you two. The proper amount of respect and RP, and you let the Oracle talk instead of doing all the talking yourselves! Awesome.

Many things were revealed during this session, now we just need to sort them out.))

#36300097523 11/17/2006 00:46 Re:[6.1.5] Would you kill him? - Recursion - 11/14/06

Killing is always the easy way out.

Remember, the Oracle can not tell you what is right and wrong. Only what you need to hear.

Here's a phase that you might want to consider: Mutally Assured Destruction
I don't suppose too many of you remember the cold war between Russia and America. The short version:

  • USA: Let's make ourselves safe *builds nukes*
  • Russia: We feel threatened by America, we must defend ourselevs *builds nukes*
  • Both: If you blow us up we blow you up

It's the old paradox of living in a imperfect and agressive world "To obtain peace we must prepare for war".

With great power comes great responsibility, peace through simplicity is the key.
When was the last time you saw two rice farm workers tear each other apart over control of an Ox?

Who would make you Judge, Jury and executioner? Anome has done wrong. He has killed many.
However... He has killed (and in fact they were until recently his only focus) many blue-pills, but wasn't he lead to believe (and Caboloco's last words reinforce this) that "it's all fake, none of it's real". Would you consider yourself a murderer for slaughtering millions of in-game characters to win said computer game?

Anome is INCREDIBLY powerful, but as a Zionite I don't particularly wish to increase the Machines' hold over us. The Oracle mentions their current policy (if it's a problem, delete it. if it isn't a problem, wait for it to become a problem then delete it) of delete not rehabilitate. Even the machines admit that taking him down is a one-shot chance of great difficulty. Perhaps there is another way. Our greatest successes have been with mind games. Unlimit's defeated by their own greed, obsession or predictability.

Anome's childhood is obviously a key point and perhaps can be used to our advantage... like a deft touch to the right pressure point and knowing a joint's limits, can turn an attacker's power against them. The whole concept of Aikido is based around this.

There is a reason that in the late 20th century mentally ill people were incacerated in facilities for rehabilitation and care. They can not always be held responsible for their actions.

Do not misunderstand me. I am not advocating Anome's innocence. He has killed many, with malice. But we should not be too hasty in jumping to the conclusions the machines would like us to jump to.

There is always a choice... when the time comes will you be brave enough to make the right one?

((Awesome little event... I'd gladly give my left nut to have been there. I have a great many questions to ask the Oracle.))

(Lol, PhanthomZtryker is on the Oracle's buddylist. Private encounters are always so slick. Good event.)

Yeah thats what I noticed too, I think Sparticle was the other person I saw.

Indeed... I do believe sparticle might have a dodgy connection too... either that or they were doing the hokey pokey SMILEY *sings*
