This is an idea I recently had but I will need someone who knows some basic web scripting.

The goal of this event is to bring detailled investigations and clues gathering in The Matrix.
To help you understand better here is a, very basic example:

Murder enquiry

The player enters the office and starts looking for clues.
Obviously items and notes cant be dropped so the player tabs out to a website and type ( or click on icons) : search top drawer.
Searching the top drawer gives the player a key to the desk (key has a number) so he then types:
"open safe with key342"
The safe contains the address to another destination or player to meet and so on.

If someone can come up with such script, it can be used for many other events on that website. This will also open the door to events unlimited in time, with harder riddles taking a few days to crack.

i believe the illuminati faction used to do that to their events.

Not sure how many people would want to go to all that trouble. Why would we be in game if the clues were in a webpage? Why wouldn't we just do it on the webpage to get the information needed?

A script-website allows a constant and protected source of data for players to progress in their investigation. It allows a mix between npc and player interaction, events playable from various directions and ways without having a large event team on standby. Also a story can evolve as it is played, players progress while organizers are writing more riddles.
The traditional way is a timed event, with ppl waiting at locations for players to show up and give them some information. After an hour or 2 its over and all felt more like a race while others complain that they couldnt make it.

An example event:

1: the starting location is given to players. Club poly, the hunt for a mysterious man
2: speaking to a particular dancer npc reveals a clue (on the site). the person comes at a certain time.
3: players come at a certain date/time to find the man (event actor) but he runs away from the ppl looking for him.
4: where he disappeared, players who searched the area find a business card, an archivist, and the name of a book scribbled on it.
5: they go to the archivist and enquire about this book. It was borrowed by the mysterious man. clever players will manage to get the address from the archivist (can be done by a player or on the website)
6: They arrive at the location, and break into the man's apt. he may or may not be here. The actor will be at the location at the same time each day for the duration of an event. before they arrest him they can gather more evidence using the website.

Such events can last for weeks. Players would trade information they gather if they wish.
Each  "interactive" zone will have a set of clues. The number of clues will be visible to all, some indispensable, others not, so players know when the area has been thoroughly searched.
A star clue will provide info on progressing for this quest, others will just be information about the quest. This way people dont overlook clues or interpret them wrongly.

How did the illuminati proceed? is there such website out there?

Interesting Gotique. How did you get into my head about your example event. hehehe =P... It was very similar to what I was writing an event sponsored by the Kings of Never.  But due to an accidental deletion of my Kings of Never folder in my hard drive, I got depressed by it and lost interest in finishing such event in writing.

I came across the Illuminati event as I was just intercepting other transmissions here on DN1. I intercepted such transmission by Ambriel from the Syntax server. It starts as a Logic puzzle that will bring me to another puzzles such as Morse code and a Frequency modulator. Once you passed all puzzles, it will lead you to a http address and thus show the actual transmission of what the event entrails.
