I don't know if this is a ground-breaking discover or a well-known feature already discussed to death somewhere in the past, but at least I was quite surprised by it and thought I should post it.

When casually taking a closer look at a Richland side alley (they all have the same texture as far as I know), I've discovered that the regular crack patterns I had reckoned as abstract actually pictured insects.

Here a few examples:

I heard, in the past they put hidden messages (for a lack of a better term) inside the city textures themselves as a part of storytelling. Is this maybe a left-over from the Assassin plot?

Wow nice find. I don't think they link to the Assassin because they look like dragonflies not regular flies. Maybe the devs just put them in there to see if anyone notices them and not to have any meaning.

Impressive... most impressive. Where'd you find this?

Or... they just needed a pattern for cracks in the pavement and they did what a lot of game designers do... use exisitng textures. Thats is why they are so week (as ind contrast) and large, so nobdy sees them right away and it gives a nice organic pattern as one would expect from cracks in pavement.

Thats what I think. No conspiracy theory, lol.

The live events can't be that complex...It's most likely just random.

I took the pics in Lemone, but it's the same on any sidewalk in Richland and Westview (not sure about Downtown).

Basically, I don't quite understand how "existing texture" automatically results in insect cave drawings. I mean, the cracks on the main streets are also patterned, but don't look like insects as far as I've seen...

And Joakim, the older live events contained clues in the very world textures. At least that's what they said in laucnh interviews, and I've a read a player on the forum complaining about the new events mention this aswell. So I automatically thought it was some remnant from the beginning of the game where everything revolved around flies and insects...

It's symmetrical, probably where two of the same textures overlap.  Symmetrical things can be interpreted in many different ways by different people.  I don't see insects in there at all.  What do you see?

AAAIIIEEE! Sig no workie!

I agree the textures in the screenshots can't be identified as insects with a 100% certainty insects. But still, they look much like insects than your picture. One has six legs and two antennas, and has other details that look very bug-like. The other one looks kinda mutilated, but the limbs still remind me very much of insects.

Your image does kinda look like a butterfly, but the inferior wings look rather like bubbles and are separated from the rest, the sorta swelling in the middle of the body looks weird, and there is littke that would remind of a head, limbs or antennas.

But I agree, it is kinda ambiguous. Maybe it's really an accident that looks like a bug...

Yeah, a lot of games take textures and flip them so that they are symmetrical, just so they don't have to draw so much new material. It usually results in a sort of Rorschach-ish type image, and Rorschach ink blots always look like either an insect or a pelvis, at least in my opinion....

And we all know what Freud would say about seeing a pelvis in an inkblot.

In other words, the OP was just bored.

And yet another aggrieved flamer from the old days who holds grudges over months.

No. When I found and posted that, I was actually very excited. I'd say that's the exact opposite of bored.

Probably it is some sort of accident, but especially the figure in the middle still reminds me too intensively of an insect. Anatomically not entirely correct, but still.

Well there are .. or atleast at a time were hidden stuff. LIke messages and ways to answer back etc. I'm not sure if any are left or if there were anymore to begin with. With them being either so obvious or just so out of place from where the crowds go im not suprised that only a small amout of people find them. .. err found them.
