now im confused,
I got;
AMD Athlon 3800+ (2.6ghz)
nVidia 7800GTX-TDH 256mb (forced anatialising on)
3gb Corsair (ddr400)

and i run everything on max, at 1280x1024 normally, and get 20-25 FPS (even in massive pvp) (useropts forces x12 antialiasing + hi texture building no matter the distance)

however i use the x2.00 and i get 4-6FPS....

I only get bad FPS drops when I'm chasing someone or running away.
#36300049033 09/14/2006 09:51:20 Re:Mx0 ·· The balance of "options.cfg" and "useropts.cfg" is the main thing
It's the distance settings that kill me, and make my FPS drop significantly (x2.00 anyway)... Other than that, it's gorgeous to look at! SMILEY

Only problem is (as Ann's told me) the minute I go into options and mess with any Advanced settings, it kills all the distance and other special settings, and brings me back to more or less "normal" max MxO.

Yup. It does that to all tinkered options. You have to alter the advanced settings in the useropts file itself to avoid that. Apparantly, turning "Scale LOD" options back on significantly decreased the lag.

Mx0 ·· "options/useropts (cfg) - ingame options

@ Orexis

Yes, thats all right, only a small correction - I said, changing the "ingame options" destroys the running session, that means you can change the "ingame options", but a mxo restart is necessary then. Or like PBlade says do all in the file self, but to be ownest I am sometimes too lazy to log off, deactivate the "read-only" checkbox of the file, open a file, write new values in, save it, open properties and activate the "read-only" checkbox again and restart. The restart you must do anyway, so I think its much easier to change the settings ingame and restart only - thats all.

@ DragonStorm

Thank you so much for your nice PMs and all your replies, I am allways very happy when people send me a photo of their experiences with the settings and some comments about it.

And now that my video editing software is all sorted ... hopefully some FMV of the new settings tomorrow.

Mx0 ·· "options/useropts (cfg)" - PM Transfer

@cloudwolf

Hehe, CloudWolf with the exactly same question again, like 3 months ago. Ok, I will tell you why. The Bazman Sisters, special my sister Arzu, had several problems with the admins and SOE. Arzu was banned from mxo forums for her opened kind and was warned from SOE in a special case. It was totaly stupid in my eyes - for a simple sentence which Arzu said ingame. She made her famous Commando Fashion (cmd-beret, green-brown uniform etc) and said "now I look like "Arzu" the terrorist". For this small sentence they put her in the white room, asked her very strange questions and told her, if she speaks about such things again they will ban her from mxo and every other SOE universe games. "Someone" reported her as she said this 'dangerous' sentence. Of course we know who that was in the meantime. The point is following, because I know there is somewhere written that manipulate other files than "useropts.cfg" is not allowed, so I am clever enough to not play with such things anymore and don't cross any borders like my sisterheart. I don't trust them in this point, at end they ban me and say, I place images here which give to new users the feeling the game can look like this by default and the users could be depressed because its not possible with a middle-strong PC. I choosed to do it over the pm channel, I hope you have understanding for that.

Mx0 ·· "options/useropts (cfg)" - PM Transfer

Hi all!

Thank you very much for the compliments and also thanks to those which wrote me a pm. I still work on one setting and I must prepare the 5 Versions again (x1.00+), (x1.25), (x1.50), (2.00) and (x4.00). This time I made a "x4.00" as a separate package too - in the last versions was the '400' setting only as deactivated block included. I made the experience that the difference between '200' and '400' is not very big for the PC (frame rate). When you log in with the '400' version and wait 2 Minutes before you start to running arround, it works very well. But that is only necessary for PCs with 1GB RAM and 256MB video, PCs with more power have anyway no problem with. I heard "phi" made her additional "x6.00" version and he is happy with the result. Okay, give me lil bit time, I make the last tests, because I try some new settings and won't send the (cfg) files twice to all ppl which asked for them. All of you, who sent me a pm will receive the files today or tomorrow. I have a full inbox of requests for the files and I am very happy that you like the graphic. Big thanks to Arzu, she made all these  wonderful photos.

Still playing it safe eh? I understand, no worries.

I still say useropts should really be mined by the game and the devs though, make it a fully recognised feature and selling point rather an underground circle of tinkerers. hehe.

As promised I've been muckin' with my settings and here's what I've got:
(Please note that I'm running a core-duo, 2GB RAM and an nVidia 7590 and these settings are at the limits of nicely playable. Missions run smoothly because the interior distances are much shorter)

The first view of Richland. (Can you see trees in Tabor Park from Mara C? I can.)

From the roof of MetaCortex.

MetaCortex Arial View.

Sunrise over Tabor Park.

Bathary Warf.

And yes... You may have noticed that the buildings in the background are in colour.
Turns out that the trick is to make the fog max distance Further than the skybox distance.

MXO - "options.cfg" and "useropts.cfg"

Hi phi!

Oh yes, that are really very nice photos. And this sky box skyscrapers thing is very funny, as I said Ann found out how to make the skyscrapers look more realistic (my msg with subway pics), it was exactly this. It happened accidently as she put in a wrong value and the whole fog was away and the skyscrapers looked more as photos than a computer graphic. But this fog is necessary, that is a sure thing, without it we have an unrealistic result, in my eyes. You did it perfectly. I find your values (difference between the sky box and the fog is very realistic). Very good work "phi", great.

[]  I place some new samples, when I come home this night.

Okay i'm wondering about a small thing.

Does the "see-far-as-crap" thing only go on how much RAM you have? So you don't need like a superdeluxe Graphics card to run this? 'Cause i have 4 gigs of RAM but a graphic card that sucks a bit.
#36300104129 11/25/2006 21:29:22 Re:Mx0 ·· The balance of "options.cfg" and "useropts.cfg"

No the SFAC thing (as you put it) requires cpu and GFX performance as well.

Sure the further you can see, the more RAM you need to load the world. But you need increased CPU speed to shunt the data around and do all the physics etc., Your graphics card also needs to work like crazy to calculate, draw, texture, render and layer many many more triangles.

The number of triangles the computer needs to deal with also increases at an exponential rate as you turn up the view distance.

So no... you need grunt as well as RAM. EG I have 2GB RAM but you could easily cook an egg on my CPU heatsink. I don't have a heater in the study.

Hrmm... I think I'll refer to my study as little vegas from now on. It's all about gaming and electricity consumption.

Hey, Whoot! Those settings are marvellous! Thank you very much for this work, for your sharing, Anne. You did a *CENSORED* good job!

I use these settings now for filming all day and its hard for me to rejack for playing, for I have to reduce it all to "normal" then for better perfomance. The settings are perfect for photography and filming, but doing missions with them slows my engine down.

But..  i am deeply impressed!

Mx0 ·· "options/useropts (cfg)" - Answer for Laurina

Hi Laurina!

Thank you very much for the compliment first, but how you describe the using of these files is not correct. Yes, its true that versions (x2.00) and (x4.00) are only for photography, making movies or for all other (not-mission/not-fighting) activities. The versions (x1.00+), (x1.25) and (x1.50) you can use for missions or fighting very well. You wrote an email and you told me you have a new PC with 2GB RAM and 512MB video, with this power you can run the file "x1.50" for such activities without any problems. And don't forget, all versions have the absolute same graphic quality, the lil difference is only in distances, how far you can see. I have only 1GB RAM and 256MB video, I run the file "x1.25" for the missions. You wrote, it were hard to switch back for gaming only (original config file), because the low quality of the standard mxo "options.cfg". Laurina, don't do that, take the (x1.25) or (x1.50) for normal gaming (missions, fighting, pvp, duel). With these two solutions you will be happy to doing both, making movies and fighting.

** btw:

Do you have the new files, 2.00 Edition? - I mean the one with the new colored and detailed far skyline (skyscrapers in the 'sky-box' distance).

Hello, sisters. I'm extremely impressed and want to know if the "sky-box past the buildings" options will not slow down my computer severely for regular gameplay. I have 1GB of RAM and my video card is a 256MB one. I also have a dual-core Intel processor if that makes any difference.
#36300105262 11/27/2006 08:22:06 Re:Mx0 ·· The balance of "options.cfg" and "useropts.cfg"
I'm also wondering if the Skybox is a seperate entity or the result of an amazingly long Line of Draw, or too much for my computer, which is very comparible to Sykin's, other than the graphics card.
#36300105267 11/27/2006 08:25:10 Re:Mx0 ·· The balance of "options.cfg" and "useropts.cfg"
You could always back up your original useropts and options files and try the settings.
But, I have 1.5 GB of RAM and a 512MB graphics card and I can tell the settings did slow down my pc.
#36300105283 11/27/2006 08:32:45 Re:Mx0 ·· The balance of "options.cfg" and "useropts.cfg"
Yes, I am not sure how the skybox thing is done (Separate entity is what I'm hoping). I don't need the rest of all of the options as I am very sure that would slow down my computer (Rendering all the buildings for miles and miles).
#36300105309 11/27/2006 08:41:13 Re:Mx0 ·· The balance of "options.cfg" and "useropts.cfg"
I absolutely love these settings, you have done awesome work.  I just wish I could use them for more than 20 seconds before my computer freezes.    I only have 1GB of RAM and a 128MB card with a 1.9Ghz Athlon too though, so that's more than likely the problem.  Hopefully I'll be upgrading in January though.  I yearn for screenshots like those.

That is ofcourse if you don't take into account the fact that they made the game near impossible to change. =P

Mx0 ·· "options/useropts (cfg)" - Answer for Sykin

Hi Sykin!

No, when you take the lowest file (x1.00+), it will not reduce your PC performance. This file has the same distances values like the original "options.cfg" file, it has only 4 or 5 new commands lines, which make the graphic better and this new (colored/detailed) 'skyline' setting. I would say, you can even take the (x1.25) version.

** btw:

Tell me, if I should send you the file packages. Send me a PM or write a new message here.

bye

Sweet irony.
Players being able to change the looks of the entire game while the devs have a hard time fixing that tiny little bug...

Annbazman! Please answer! (or maybe some other peeps knows the answer too?)

Does the biggest file affect RAM or my graphics card? I have 4gb of RAM but a graphics card that's...Heck i dunno. It's a crappy 256 mb card. I think.

Thanks! You rock!
