So, I said to myself, "Self, I need a good game to go play for a bit that's not Matrix." And lo and behold, I had some credit, and my employee discount, coming to me from Electronics Boutique. So I walked in and I wanted to pick up a new game for the 360.
I ended up walking out of the store with a pre-order slip for Capcom's Dead Rising. And two days ago, I was introduced to a world of awesome zombie destruction.
While many people may peg this game for being repetitive, I don't see why you would care. There's just soooooo many ways to eliminate the 600+ zombies on screen that it's too much fun to be repetitive! Mall bench? No problem! Pick it up and start plowing! 10% Off sale sign? Take it and swing it! Potted plant? Chuck it into a pile of zombies. Bowling ball? I smell a zombie strike coming on!
It's a far cry from the Resident Evil series, and it's a welcome addition to the zombie franchise. The mall is really really well detailed, right down to the musiak playing from the speakers and those stupid automated announcements. Everything is bright and happy, but the mall gets pretty freaky at night when the electricity is cut to it. Plus, you have to survive in the mall for 72 hours while trying to figure out what's going on AND attempting to get enough photos to be the best journalist EVAR.
The camera twist is great, being able to take those "priceless" pictures really makes the experience that much more fun. And the ability to look at Frank's watch to check the time and check what "scoops" (missions) you have active is a great ability too.
All in all, I didn't think I'd enjoy this game so much. But I'm really really suprised at how much fun Dead Rising turned out to be. If you're a 360 owner, get it. Get it now. If you're not into mass zombie genocide, then skip this one. But if you want to throw everything plus the kitchen sink at a huge huge huge horde of angry zombies... you want this one.
So... anyone got any good Dead Rising stories? I'm certain you can tell some with this game.
