According to a few websites they are going to or already have cast Heath Ledger in the role of the joker. They also say there will be multiple villians in the film.

"From what I've heard about the direction of the film expect The Joker to be very creepy and very extreme," a trusted source for BoF advised the site, claiming that Ledger's Clown Prince will be totally unlike Jack Nicholson's portrayal in the 1989 film.

I'm just not fond of Heath Ledger. He doesn't strike me as a person who will ever be a hollywood Icon or someone that will ever impress me in anyway. First I think he's to young to play the joker and second i don't think the guy could be sinister or funny if his life depeneded on it. But I guess we'll see.
