This belongs here SMILEY
Ok, well I feel this is important to be said, before the patch that will be landing on us tomorrow.
Quite a few players have had the opportunity to test out Combat Revamp 2.0 over that the External Playtest Server (EP), so for the most part they will be aware of what has changed, whats new and how things work with the new combat, but we also know a lot of other people have not had the chance to test this, for many reasons, and even those who may have been on EP they might not have got to grasps with what is new with the combat.
What that basically translates to is, expect a lot of people having something to complain about, simply because they dont understand how to use it, no one likes change, but trust me when i say this is most definately for the good.
Im going to try and cover what I believe will be the most common questions that people are likely to ask, Im going of experience from people asking me over at QA also. So please read this, before posting a query, but also know that you need to spend some time with this new combat to get used to it and dont post or make any quick judgement before you have given it time to get used to it.
First and foremost people need to know this
There are now 3 types of buffs/points system you need to know that the new system has and these are them.
Accuracy - determines the attack score (what used to be known as attack buffs)
Defense - determines the defense score from said attack
Resistance - determines how much damage an attack will do
Now the 4 groups these will apply to are...
Melee - Used with MA's
Ballistic - Used with Gun's
Viral - Used with Hackers
Thrown - Used with Knife Abilites
(Knifes no longer used what was the same buffs applied for guns in the old system)
Also with this combat there is no longer a mini score when in interlock, all that is gone. (it works trust me)
How are rolls worked out
Now know this, you will get hit a lot more in combat, even from players a lot lower than you, the difference is the resistance and damge taken.
When in interlock or freefire, the accuracy will go against the defense of that attack being used. i.e your melee defense will go against any melee accuracy attack.
Therefore when in interlock with a gunman for example, his ballistic attack will go against your defense and not your melee attack. You need to learn to decide where to add more defense or resistance points with this.
Clothing
In CR2 clothing is not a critical as it was in the current system. However it can still help make your more effective than your opponent
You will see "enhanced" clothing will provide % buffs or a score, that varies.
As you see with these shoes, some are % based others are point based.
Now you have various choices on how to use clothes, be it buffing abilites or simply resistance, the more resistance you have against an ability the longer you can take damage from people attacking you with it.
Statuses Note /stun etc
Things like Stun, Enrage, Powerless etc etc, now have a much shorter duratino and now no longer getting the first to stun or powerless will decide the outcome of a fight, far from it, tactics are key in the new combat.
As a quick note you can see that things like enrage + stun and so on can have their duration time increased through abilites and clothes.
Hotbar + more
Well the hotbar now has 20 slots, and 2 can be shown at the same time now, as a rule add the 5 basics to a hotbar, since choosing the Blue / Speed or Red/Power or Green/Grab and Yellow/Block will effect how effect various moves will be now, when you choose a basic from them it is applied as a running buff also.
What each one has an advantage of varies, as a rule its.. (mouse over them ingame to see actual % for each status)
Blue/Speed - Increase your Accuracy, more like to hit, but your less likely to break a shield and your defense takes a hit
Red/Power - Increase the power of an attack, but weakens your sheild and accuracy.
Green/Grab - The best for try to break shields and defense, but weakens your own shield and damage output
Yellow/Block - Best for defense and shield, cant attack at all with this running...
here you can see the dual hotbar and I currently have the blue basic buff running
Buffing your Abilites

Now when you choose the tree you want to use, you have to apply the buffs for it now yourself, but this is where tactics plays a key role.
as my example ill use the MA tree.
You can only have 1 main buff as well as the "style" running. i.e you can have karate running with karate grandmaster, but then you can't add the operative buff, it will overide the grandmaster buff,
if i click on it you see it replaces the grandmaster buff
so have multi trees, you need to decide which style and main buff you will use, you cant have serveral buffs applied, however buffs gained from other abilites not as a main buff will add, i.e karate prowless etc
Now this goes into a lot more detail, but knowing the basics helps...
to add on a ability level the 8 new abilites in awakened (well the old ones have new meaning)
the top 4 offer a defense buff from the 4 applicable (see top of guide), the ones directly below them offer a resitance, however the 4 below are time limited for grant and re-use. You should be awawre you at any time apply the viral defense buff with any of the other 3, but no other 2 defense buffs can be running at the same time.
Free Fire Melee
Once you have a MA tree loaded to use this, you simply click the drop down on the far right attack icon and choose which ability/weapon will be used for free fire melee
To use the free fire melee, just get close enough to an opponent and when the icon is yellow for attack, then click on it.

How to tell when your move lands

Thank you for the comments, one thing i didnt point out for new ppl is you simply click onthe move in the hotbar to use it, it will then flash red while in que. If successful you get a green target icon flash in it, if failed just red "dust" image.

hit

also the targeting recticle at the players feet turns red on when you take a hit or the player does.

I hope these quick fire basics help people, but please be patient with the new system, those not tried it, or only briefly tried it will know you need to give it some time to get used to it, and once that happens, you will wonder how we ever managed to have fair and balanced PVP etc without it
So just to say again , think before coming down on CR2, if you do, they only reason i think will be because you dont like change and simply dont understand it, dont worry, you will get it
Anytihng missed please add, but this is more a quick fire for those who hit CR2 first time and dont understand various things.

Nice guide, Aqua. Simple and to the point, and covers the main areas where newbies might be confused.

This thread delivers :smileywink:

Another thing I want to add to Aquatiums thread is for those who have some abilites that only lvled to 20 or 30 (the big 3 hacker VD abilities come to mind) you might want to go and upgrade those to 50. After seeing the new abilities and uncapped abilities in QA, i started saving info.

After using all 125 million info, I still have a few abilites to lvl up from their previous caps. So once you learn this system or have a good grasp on it, head on out to do missions (ugh grinding) and get that info coming in again.

i dont get the lil green reticule!! SMILEY
#35900000222 04/03/2006 14:09:42 Re: Cr2 - The Beginners Guide

Can I ask a question? I'm going to anyway.

When in the midst of using Free-Fire to pepper my enemy with bullets, I suddenly decide to use a hacker attack (that really low level one, like the first one you get), my battle log thing goes berzerk and the attack doesn't stick to do any damage.

*click to fire*

*after a few rounds, click to do the hack attack thing*

You are now using the Hacker Style martial arts style

You are now using the Self Defense martial arts style

You are now using the Self Defense martial arts style

*No damage, have to click something or else I'll just sit there and get owned*

Nice and easy to read guide, now Im off to read the PDF file.   Ug, LOL

I have only played a few times now, but I have really enjoyed this game. My main issue right now is the controls. I will search the forums a little more for a guide on this, but if anyone has a link on how the controls work and some alternative mouse/keyboard setups, please PM it to me. Thanks.

anyone know where the forum rank guide is?
#36300335265 10/09/2007 12:24:13 Re:Cr2 - The Beginners Guide

Has there ever been a compilation of the rate of increase for ability influences?

Such as this:

Self Defense Ability Attributes:

  • Ballistic Accuracy: +1 per level Focus
  • Ballistic Defense: +0.96 per level Perception
  • Ballistic Damage: 2 + 0.2 per level Perception
  • Melee Accuracy: +1 per level Belief
  • Melee Defense: +0.96 per level Focus
  • Melee Damage: 4 + 0.42 per level Focus
  • Thrown Defense: +0.96 per level Reason
  • Viral Defense: +0.96 per level Belief

Only for all the abilities? Or does this 'influence scaling template' apply to all of them?
