Diversus is here to save us from ourselves, my dears. He's a good egg, so do right by him in his capacity as our liaison officer, and he'll do right by you. Mwah! <3 <3 Veil
"Let it be known that I normally avoid leaving traces of myself, but, with the increased fighting lately, I suppose it's better than the alternative of bein erased from history.
"As I try to recall back what has brought me to where I am, I find myself dwelling on the past. In my "former" life, I had it all. I had the kind of life Cypher was looking for. Mansions, cars, money, if it was tangible, I had it. I was well knowledged in the business world. With money like that, you gain a certain bit of respect, and dare I say it, even power. I'm not talking about the kind of power where you slam your fist into someone's face so hard that the people around you are injured. I mean the kind that when you look a man square in the eye, he knows that you could put him in a misery far worse than death.
"I didn't scare you away with that last line? Eh, well, I suppose written words don't carry the same kind of emotion that spoken do.
"Anyways, my life was great, I lived like a king, and I figured I would die as a king. Things don't always go exactly according to plan though, y'know what I mean? Now, you're probably scratching your head, wondering where the big plot twist comes in? Well, here it comes, just hold your horses.
"So, I'm walkin into work one day, a few months back, and I see all this ruckus by one of the phone booths. People fighting, flipping through the air, oddest thing I had ever seen (and trust me, I've seen some odd things in my day). I'm just standing there, minding my own business, watching (what I thought at the time) some street performers, when this bald joker in a purple trenchcoat plows clear into me. The fighting stopped, as everyone looked at him, obviously they couldn't believe he just ran into me, of all people. So they start chasin after him. He stops dead in his tracks, looks down at me, and drops this contraption on the floor, and takes off running again.
"'Something interesting is about to happen.' Yeah, you're darn right something interesting happened, the next thing I knew the world went green, and I started to go into shock. Suddenly I wake up, floating in some sort of goo, and in a completely new world.
"I'll save you the boring details, but to make a long story short, I wind up aboard a Zion hovercraft, fighting what I was told at the time was "the good fight." Liberating people, and bringing them into this hell hole. I asked them about the bomb thing that that guy set up, apparently, I was "one of the lucky ones." They told me that a lot of people couldn't take the pressure of seeing the Matrix for what it really was, and died of shock. These fanatics actually thought what they were doing was right; they actually thought killing people who didn't even have a part in their war was just. Well, I couldn't let that go on any further.
"Weeks went by, and I ran into a guy who called himself Enmascarado, on one of my patrols in the Matrix. We got to talking, and he explained a whole lot of stuff, that made a lot of sense. After that, I knew what I had to do. I'll save you the gory details, but let's just say, me and my old crew had a difference of opinion. Who knows, maybe a couple of them survived... but I doubt it, not after that explosion.
"I managed to get back in contact with my leaders, and got into direct contact with Veil. It's funny... she's nothing like the cold calculated killer people claim her to be. She's got kind of a motherly charm to her. She scolded me pretty bad for what I did, I guess I can't blame her. She does a pretty good job at keeping me peaceful whenever I feel those aggressive cut-throat tendencies coming back.
"The rest, well, that's either boring, or hasn't happened yet. There's still a lot of work we gotta do, if we ever plan to go back home, and live within the Matrix without disturbance. Probably should be workin on that, rather than blabberin about my past."
