May Third
A satisfying end to what had been a frustrating evening. Those accursed Ethereals chanced upon my choice humans and, perhaps in an attempt to weaken me, or quite possibly simply out of spite, secreted them deep within their dungeon beneath Rawlins Corner.
A pox on their transparent hides, and on their sensory code that somehow allows them to detect me! I'd have gathered my brood to destroy them, but the thought of sharing such delectable morsels nearly made me weep.
And then it struck me. Humans! There are those with a modicum of power who work for the Merovingian, and the more intelligent among them hold me in some awe. They are often distasteful when allowed to move freely, but in this case, I had not the luxury of finding another alternative, as time grew short. The Ethereals would certainly not know how to keep my snacks preserved in their delicate stasis, and they would soon spoil.
Finding suitable human assistants required sifting among those running about the city, trying to identify the least annoying. Fortune must have assisted in my selections, as they gave me surprisingly little trouble. Predictably, another attempted to follow us. I believe he learned the folly of such an attempt.
Of the Ethereals, the less said, the better. Cowards and weaklings in battle, they fell before us quickly. After some disorientation in their maze-like tunnels, my senses detected the spoor of my stolen goods, and I found them hidden in a small room, still reasonably preserved.
Ah! To sate one's appetite after a long fast. It revitalized me. For dessert, I led my humans to the Ethereal leader, and summarily dispatched him. In exchange for some trinkets, the humans seemed happy with their lot. We parted...friends? Too strong, perhaps. At least, then, satisfied acquaintances.
