Has someone else seen the low damage output of the free sneak attacks?
I mean, I havent understand the DPS for abilities since now...... NoRepro had sayed something with dps number *4 plus the upgrades and all stuff you have loaded...... but this picture shows you a strange..... why is the damage output so down?
I had test this with my lvl11 (Yeah, the Name is CR20 and it is my name SMILEY ^^ ) against some lvl3 npcs.....

Is it an bug? Or is it normal that the free sneak attacks does an low damage like this?

Whats this now?

Devs?

WHAT IS THE DPS TO THE HACK!!!

DPS*4 plus all buffs?
28*4=112

49*4=117

I have an thrown damage bonus from 123 with lvl11:smileysurprised:

I want to see the damage output before Im doin it! Answers devs, I need answers how I can see it.....

Ive get enough of this..... when the CR2.0 is going out, and there isnt any good description to it I dont play it. I will cancel my account. I dont want to play something that I cant understood!

Those numbers are fine.  Your highest ability there is a level 11.  Canceling your account because you dont know what your doing is foolish.  Learn the new system like everyone else had to do or leave...Dont threaten the devs over this.

Have you looked at the DPS value?
A Spinning Backsweep with 28DPS does more damage then an Leg Throw with 59DPS :smileysurprised:

If you know the DPS system so good, explain it me..... why is the damage so low?

And, I dont want to threat anyone of the dev team, but I had asked this question a long time ago and I hadnt get any answer..... Is it an bug (It isnt in the known isue list) or is it normal? And if it is normal, why?
#34900006683 03/17/2006 08:28:17 Re: Free Sneak Attack buged?

I too have problems understanding the DPS system, it just over complicates things. Why not just have a system whereas all buffs etc are calculated and an estimated damage output is shown rather than a DPS.

Besides, if i was a n00b then i'd look at DPS (4) and think *CENSORED*, thats pathetic!

It would be nice to get some relatively simple explanation of the goings on here, obviously to see something with twice the DPS resulting in less damage means there is an additional mechanism going on which would be relevant to our application of abilities etc. An aletrnative approach would be perhps to offer a typical or average damage figure as well as the dps?
#34900006688 03/17/2006 09:12:30 Re: Free Sneak Attack buged?
The best thing is, that the lvl4 Abilitie has killed the lvl3 npc instant. But you can see with the lvl11 Ability the lvl3 npc hadnt get enough damage and had tryed to attack me.....

I mean, I can understand, that the free sneak attacks have a bit lesser damage then a real sneak attack.... becouse the free sneak attacks can do some debuffs...... but these debuffs arent worth for it to go out of sneak....

I had calculate something, NoRepro had sayed that you can calculate the damage output of an ability if you do this:
DPS*4+all buffs

Spinning Backsweep:
28*4=112
I had done 235 Damage so my thrown damage bonus is 123.
Harrying Attack:
49*4=196
196+123= 319 Damage
Leg Throw:
59*4=236
236+123=359 Damage

A lvl4 Abilitie does 235Damage, and a lvl11 Abilities does 300-380 Damage. An lvl11 enemy has ~500Energie..... so, I think this would be the right damage amount for those abilities....... but why I have an thrown damage bonus from 123 with lvl11?

DPS values for abilities are added to your base style's DPS. This does NOT take into account buffs that may modify this or you infulences that modify your dps. A better way to look at  your damage output is looking at your status panel for your damage type then adding the abilities dps to that value this will give you a better feel (not an exact number) of where your dps would be if the ability was instant. But as we know that most abilties aren't instant they either have cast timers or are restricted by the 4 second combat round from interlock combat. (dps * time = damage) "roughly". There are more factors involved but this should be a ball park figure.

If all else fails simply try out the ability on the Test Server. :smileywink: There is no substitute for experience.

Ok, but I hadnt change something in my status panel, buffs or something..... but a abilitie with 59DPS had does a lower damage then a abilitie with 29DPS :smileysurprised:
This is what I cant understood :smileysad:
There where 3 lvl3 NPCs, I had sneaked attacked the first.... sneaked again and attacked the 2nd one..... and then sneaked again and had attacked the 3trd one.....

No change in my buffs or something else...

If the time it takes to do the ability is shorter then the ability could conceivable do less damage. for example

10 dps * 2 seconds = 20 damage

5 dps * 6 seconds = 30 damage

Higher dps damage does less per hit because it has a shorter use timer. however if used over a longer period the 10 dps ability should deal more over all damage because it takes 1/3 the time to use in my example.

So single use of an ability is a poor judge of that abilties over all effectiveness when you are talking about a dps system.

#34900006694 03/17/2006 09:39:26 Re: Free Sneak Attack buged?
4 seconds.....2seconds....6seconds...... and how do I know how long does an abilitie needs to cast?
I cant sit there with an stopwatch and get the cast time SMILEY

By the way..... the free sneak attacks have an to low damage :smileysad:......even the debuffs cant balance the low damage SMILEY
#34900006695 03/17/2006 09:40:24 Re: Free Sneak Attack buged?

10 dps * 2 seconds = 20 damage

5 dps * 6 seconds = 30 damage

So with this as an example, the one with 10dps still is more effective seeing as you can use it 3 times (not using a reuse timer seeing as its just an example) in the same time the 5dps one does 1 attack. So the 10dps one does 60 damage in 6 seconds and the 5dps one 30.
Whoa, I think I get it now SMILEY

#34900006696 03/17/2006 09:40:51 Re: Free Sneak Attack buged?
Remember we're talking about Damage Per Second, so the cast time should be taken into account.  For example, Logic Cannon 2.0 has lower DPS than Logic Barrage 4.0, but it does more damage in one hit because it takes so long to cast.  How long does it take to cast Spinning Backsweep compare to the others?

Exactly, but it's not a given that the 10 DPS is more effective.  For the spy example, the amount of damage you can do on the first hit may be more important than the amount you can do over time.

KK, big question here

Why cant a script be written to simply display these estimates (DPS*Cast time) rather than just DPS? Would solve the problem of 'how much is this actually gonna hurt?' as well as streamline the whole experience.

#34900006702 03/17/2006 10:26 Re: Free Sneak Attack buged?
Agreed, although isn't cast time always 4 seconds in interlock (I could be wrong)?  They would have to come up with a way to show both in and out of interlock.
