I didn't even know about the exploit until an announcement was made about it. Good to know it's being fixed. SMILEY

Good job cracking it down.
#34800000543 01/10/2006 17:26:05 Re: Update 39 - Hotfix Discussion Thread
thanks walrus and devs for puting down the law quickly with these bad apples.
Even though I think they should have been banned like the rules state...they still got a fitting punishment for exploiting. Hopefully this will deter others from ever thinking about exploit.

..... what if they copied their char's to the QA servers before you lowered their levels.... can you please look into this? I dont want to fight exploiters on the QA

Though im glad you are shutting down another exploit Walrus and company as well as penalizing everyone who used it... but did this really warrent an entire hotfix just for itself? I mean doesnt that mean you have to restart the servers for this? Kinda obserd to make a patch JUST for this if thats the case. Wouldnt it have made more sence to wait till the next patch?

I think its one of those things where the longer they leave it in, more people will abuse it, just like any exploit really, so If they wait unitl the next big patch - it just means they have alot more work to do tracking down the exploiters, and ultimately may miss some of them, which is just unfair on us regular players!
I'll be glad to see it go, I've been hearing that alot of players are going to be getting punished for this, which means less competition for us on Vector! hehe

someone said to me they was dropped down to level 2 that used it fair enough.
But they was a level 45 before that ok they used it but you took all there hard earned xp thats out of order if it was me i would cancel account think before you do things dev's its not the players fault there are bug's thats your job dont blame then for useing it if everyone new of it they would have all used it never mind its dun fixed move on

I somewhat agree with Gavin here, I have a couple of guys in my faction that that happened to, they came across the Security Device accidentally and now are back to level 2 when before they were 39 and 45.
The devs should be more careful and not having things like this out there and not punish those who only come accross it, I am not saying that whay my mates did was right either, but at least remove the "gained" experience as Walrus quoted, not all their prior levels as well.
If it was something like the agent spawn thing, ya, ban their arses, that messes up an entire server!  But this wasn't hurting nobody else...
Again, I dont agree but the devs are at fault here too and they should at least apologize for creating the situation

I don't agree at all. They got off lightly. Instead of being put back to level two, they should have been banned from all SOE games. So they exploited after hitting level 45, tough luck. They should just be happy that they can, in fact, still play the game. If you don't like the thought of losing *all* your levels, don't ever touch an exploit. They have served as a very good example for everyone else. Take note.
#34800000567 01/12/2006 17:47:10 Re: Update 39 - Hotfix Discussion Thread
Hey chuui you know what the difference between level 2 and a ban?

Yeah I do: Exploiters getting off lightly. When the rules clearly state a ban as punishment, anything else is a blessing for them and thus they have no right to complain. It's also giving the wrong the impression, some idiot could spam all day at Mara C and they get a ban. Did they "hurt" any one? No, people could have just simply moved to another area. Yet they get bans. Did they exploit the system for personal gain? No. Yet they get bans. But these exploiters caused far more harm than the spammer. But they get a simple reset? That doesn't add up.

You state the difference is $20. So what's the difference between an exploiter and a mass spammer?
#34800000568 01/13/2006 06:15:58 Re: Update 39 - Hotfix Discussion Thread
I'm glad they fixed it.  You all can thank G7G for finding this and reporting it.  =)  We were seroiusly hot on the trail of Foresaken and their fast leveling ways.  A level 2 noob would walk into a building and walk back out a lvl 50 in an hour or so.
Sorry sploiters... it wasn't a very good sploit anyways.  You would end up with a lvl 50 noob cause you had no money to upgrade your abilities.  Leveling up in 10 minutes isn't worth the lack of fun.  Seriously, the info is where it's at.
But the reasoning behind deleveling ppl and not banning is due to those who just find the exploit and not realizing that it was one.  Although after about 2 levels in 5 min, I'm sure you woud feel guilty for doing it.
#34800000569 01/13/2006 11:26:10 Re: Update 39 - Hotfix Discussion Thread
Since I'm going to start up the Update 40 thread, I'll leave this one at this: The players caught using the exploit had all XP removed that they gained using the exploit. Ever player who received this punishment used the exploit a minimum of 100 times. If a player went from 50 to 2, it's because that's how much XP they got out of the exploit.
