Well, since this one just became a category 5 after it was just a
tropical storm yesterday, I'm kinda thinking the world is ending...Oh
well.  Jack this thread up there when it becomes necessary Walrus.
:smileyindifferent:

Good luck people, hopefully this is the last one this year.

im starting to wonder if it is the end of the world :smileyindifferent:

hopefully it ain't!

It's not the end of the world, but all of our prayers go out to them. SMILEY
#34400000402 10/19/2005 05:37:05 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
We were talking about this in our Chem class. The thing is the pacific ocean current thing or whatever it is in the movie The Day After Tomorrow, the temp has gone up 2 degrees. Now thats not a huge deal some may think, yet that 2 degrees will shift more storms into hurricanes, and move them closer into the US.

Crazy stuff is happening thats for sure.
#34400000403 10/19/2005 05:43:20 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
The bad thing about this one is that it's going to where my sister lives....(I told them not to go down there around this time of year SMILEY) They plan on moving out of the state for a while....(Im glad I live in Ohio...the most we get is a few snow storms and a tornado)
#34400000404 10/19/2005 07:19:53 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion

well this is the first i heard of this one, but for those who want to read about it. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/10/19/wilma/index.html

end times may be near?

#34400000405 10/19/2005 07:23:32 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
We just had the tail end of Typhoon Number 20. Went over the prefecture I live in, but wasn't much more than heavy rain this time. Yeah I know. Japan is boring and numbers the things instead of naming them. I had to explain the naming system of hurricanes to my other half and how they retired names if people died and rotated the lists every seven years or so. Wonder if that's changed? I haven't been keeping track lately.

Meh. I just hope that we've all seen the last of these types of storms for the year.
#34400000406 10/19/2005 07:29:08 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
not sure, but from that article it says they do not use the letters of the alphabit of X Y and Z. so many possibilites of storm names would be nice to see from those letters. Maybe xenomorph or Zippy SMILEY
#34400000407 11/09/2005 21:20:56 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
the end of florida eventually , maybe i and the rest of the floridians are gonna sink one day

sorry thats my attempt to make humor during bad weather situations...

prayers and wishes again to everyone affected by wilma and all the others on this horrible hurricaine season

#34400000408 10/19/2005 06:06:14 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion

I'm from the UK so we don't really experience anything quite like this, but our thoughts and best wishes are with all that do - sincerely hoping this one doesn't develop as the earlier storms did SMILEY

Sadly the likelyhood of severe and extreme weather is increasing all the time, films like 'The Day After Tomorrow' speed that change up, but its frightening to think it may not ultimately turn out to be just fiction....

#34400000409 10/19/2005 07:07:20 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
I leave in Florida so we are getting stocked up on booze.

#34400000410 10/19/2005 07:32:01 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion

Yeah, stay safe anyone out there..

Also the film "Day After Tomorrow", even though its "fiction" its bassed around facts of what can happen, and we are seeing more extreme natural disaters happening every day.....

#34400000411 10/19/2005 07:36:44 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
I know a lot of people hated that movie, but it's still one of my favorites. Don't know why, but I just love the way they ended it. In other news, we had a grade weak 5 earthquake today. That's a 5 on the Japanese scale that only goes up to strong 7, so this wasn't a "little" quake. Funny thing is it was just over a year after the last strong quake that did a lot of damage in Niigata (IIRC) which they are still sorting out today. I guess everywhere in the world has it's own disasters on a regular basis. We don't hear of them all though due to whatever reasons.

please get out of the way.  This is the strongest Atlantic hurricane ever recorded.

#34400000424 10/21/2005 19:05:21 Re: HURRICANE WILMA

Oh joy another rainy day in Florida.  *yawn*

I live in central Florida.  I'm not leaving and I'm not impressed.

To quote REO Speedwagon, I'll be... "Riding the storm out."

That is all.

#34400000425 10/21/2005 19:50:39 Re: HURRICANE WILMA
I hope that everyone can survive, I had heared that the hurricane is greater then germany :smileysurprised:

Im from germany, so I had heared this in the news.

Also I had heared that the hurricane is above the hurricane scala,
there are parameters inside the hurricane that cant be detect on normal
measuring devices :smileysurprised:

This is realy mad, but what will we see in the next year? Or in 10 years? :smileysad:

#34400000426 10/20/2005 18:30:57 Re: HURRICANE WILMA
thnx and god bless you for caring.  GOD BLESS U ALL YOU GUYS ROCK!
#34400000427 10/20/2005 18:58:18 Re: HURRICANE WILMA
Clunk,

We already have a thread for the discussion of Wilma which is stickied
at the top of these forums.  Before posting such topics in the
future, try to use the search fuction available to all users and check
stickies to see if something has already been started.

That said, do be careful.  A hurricane, no matter how strong or
weak is still a force of nature.  If they tell you to get out, get
out.

I'm going to merge this thread with the current Wilma topic so nothing gets lost.

#34400000428 10/20/2005 19:35:15 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
It is not the end of the world. It is simply hurricane season. If it
were the end of the world, hurricans would be in every single state.

#34400000429 10/20/2005 22:53:26 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
Yea, ima catch some flames on this one..but..oh well. Ya know I live on
the gulf coast..I go through hurricanes every year..it's no fun! But,
it annoys me to no end that every time a hurricane pops up you log on
the forums to see it stickied at the top...this is MxO..not the
National Weather Service if you guys are going to sticky
every..single..freakin..hurricane then please be prepared to have about
20 stickies at the top of this forum by the end of hurricane season!
Every hurricane that pops up isn't the end all be all of life and isn't
another Katrina...yea it sucks to have a hurricane hit..loss is
inevitable. Now I can only imagine the posts to follow this up. "You're
a sick and twisted individual"...nah probably not that bad..if you're
going to go on the trip that im cold hearted and don't
care..please...don't even try all I am saying is im just tired of
seeing a sticky for every storm that pops up..I live on the gulf coast
I hear this crap year round.

#34400000430 10/21/2005 00:52:14 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
HackViral, you're not being cold hearted, i dont see how you could be
considered that from that post, but the thing about these hurricane's
is that they are significantly worse and more frequent then they have
been in previous years. i mean, 3+ MAJOR hurricanes right after each
other isn't something that happens on a yearly basis. ya 3+ hurricanes
right after each other is common during hurricane season, but of the
magnitude of these ones?

anyway, <3 to everyone who may be in the path of Wilma. good luck!

#34400000431 10/21/2005 04:15:36 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
Actually, every state wouldn't have a hurricane, considering they feed on warm water.  By the time it reached too far inland, it would be nothing.  And Alaska...no chance. If it WERE the end of the world, I'm sure it would be something else. Sorry, I have to get technical every now and then. SMILEY
#34400000432 10/24/2005 06:22:10 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
Well the hurricane came and went...very freakin' quickly I might add. Now its just very cold and windy.

A tree fell down, thats about it. But Im okay. Im sure that all of you were praying for my safety...

Yeah, blew through southern Florida, messed up stuff for alot of people. I'm in central florida, not really any damage. I think the palmetto bush out front got jacked pretty bad. was interesting driving to work today through 60mph gusts tho. the wind was making lane changes for me. Anyway, I hope everyone else is alright... and after reading all of these posts, i think there needs to be a FL MxO gathering, eh EH?

#34400000434 10/25/2005 07:33:51 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
I'm a Central Florida resident myself, and all was well here.  We got a lot of wind and rain, and that's about it.

I'm from West Palm Beach however, where my family still is, and they
got hit pretty bad.  Thankfully all of them are alright... but the
city itself has a lot of damage.  Surprisingly, it was a lot more
than anyone thought.  Hopefully things will return to a state of
normalcy down there soon :-/

Hopefully everyone else made it through that ride alright.

#34400000435 10/25/2005 07:39:09 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
Im in the exact same situation as Calliente..wierd.  Im from the
WPB and my parents house was hit pretty hard, we didnt get major
damage, but we have a lot of cosmetic damages.  I live in Orlando
at UCF and we really didnt get much here.  I was asleep the whole
day as classes were canceled, but i heard the wind and rain was really
bad, and  that was like it.  So yea, I am very very grateful
it wasnt anything like last year with all 4 hitting, or anything like
New Orleans.

#34400000436 10/25/2005 17:29:04 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion

I live in Boca Raton myself and just hooked up my remaining laptop battery to the only remaining phone line i know of in a 10 mile radius (My house woot)  We don't have power or clean water and i've spent the last two days moving a few thousand pounds of trees out of my front yard so we can get out of the house but we can't go anywhere since there's no gas.  It's pretty messed up down here.  See you guys later I'm not supposed to have power for a month.

Not bad FPL - not bad.

Florida Power and light turned on my power last night, and the totals of those who still dont have power are diminishing very quickly.  These guys are working 16 hour days... gotta hand it to em, they rock.

On the flip side here in my area of Good ol' southwest Florida, all is well some tipped trees, some screen enclosure damage, and alot of debris clean up. Although Naples unfortunatly didnt fare as well as we did here in Ft. Myers.

Once again the Red Cross is going to need your help, plently of people in Naples, Golden Gate, Hollywood, West Palm definatly need it. From what I'm told they love the money donations, but they could also use physical help. Theres alot that you can do with Red Cross - some without even leaving the house, like data entry for a couple of hours a day.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that by.

Florida sounds like a mess but good to see that they are making progress with things. I was just talking with a person that I know over in Cozumel Mexico. Storm sat over the top of them for almost 60 hours at Cat 4/5 strength with only a 1/2 hr break due to the eye. Massive devistation all over the place there. Most of the hotels there are pretty thrashed, one of the cruise ship docks is completely destroyed with the other missing a big chunk out of it and of course majority of the power lines are completely out. It's scary when you link about it actually, from texas to the tip of florida is basically one big storm trashed area from the last 2 years. Having been through almost 14 hurricanes myself I keep my fingers crossed for all of you that were effected by the storms this year and hope that your recovery is swift. The aftermath of a major storm sucks but it really makes you appreciate the little things in life. Best of luck !
#34400000439 10/27/2005 10:35:00 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
In Florida myself, Port St. Lucie on the east coast, and the east coast
got hit hard, we had 3 tornados in our backyard, one tore our sheds
apart, another ripped apart our neighbor's screen enclosure around his
pool apart and flung pieces onto his roof, across the street, and into
some neighboring yards, the third tore down trees and tore up a fence 3
houses away (we have those clear shutters so we watched the whole
thing) we still don't have power and i'm online of a generator right
now on a laptop, i won't be able to make the halloween thing on MxO and
i'm sure alot of other ppl won't be able to either... PLEASE devs give
us a chance to get those awesome masks!    please leave
the jack-o-laterns there for a few extra weeks!!!

i also want to add that i know we don't have nearly as much devestation
as those who were hit when it was a cat.4-cat.5    they'll
need an extra month to get their masks!!!

Im in Jupiter, just north of West Palm, FL and I luckily had power back on Monday night, but no Internet :smileysad:

And my job just got power back today, friday, so Ive been home all week but at least I power..now hopefully I can get power back at the house so I can enjoy this haloween masquerade :robottongue:

#34400000441 10/31/2005 17:25:43 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
I'm staying at a friend's who lives in an area with power. I live in
the Broward area and they are still pondering on when the power will be
back on... The latest they said was November 22nd.

Brought my own computer to this house so I can work and have some fun on the Matrix... Good luck to everyone out of power.

#34400000442 11/07/2005 17:46:27 Re: Hurricane Wilma Discussion
I just got power back :smileyvery-happy: but I won't have anything besides this dialup connection that keeps cutting out because the phone lines are bad for another couple of weeks :smileysad: So I'll have been jacked out for over a month by the time i get back.
