As Steve Masters found out he had been duplicated some how and that the other man known by the name Maes Hughes was a program he was shocked. After that day he decided he would stop the fighting with the Frenchman (and he had his first negotiation secretly), as he walked up to the building they were waiting for him at the door but he just ignored them and walked passed them. They didn't do anything but watched his every move, he walked into the elevator and saw the Frenchman waiting for him at a table. As he walked over and sat down at the table the Frenchman knew why he was there and was ready to hear him out.
"Look, I've had enough of this. All this fighting is not good for either of us, you going after me lowers your defenses and leaves you open for an attack and I have to keep watching my back." He said looking to the Merovingian across from the table.
"And what would you want me to do about that, if I were to stop going after you what then? What would I be getting out of it?" The Merovingian said as he stat there siping his wine.
"I will stop digging into your business in my free time and only do it when I'm ordered to, I'll stop making a lot of problems for you and I'll go into a new line of work." Steve Masters said as he sat there calmly in his usual white suite.
"What exactly is this new line of work you speak of?" The Merovingian said perplexed about what he was talking about.
"I'm planning on becoming a negotiator for the city and try to be the top negotiator of Mega City." Steve Masters said as he laid back in his chair now acting calmly.
"Is that it now? A negotiator, well I may need one later down the road but for now I'll just leave you be but remember this one day I'll be in need of a favor and you better be ready to return that favor or else your life...it will be a living hell. What you have been through will be nothing to what I will do." The Merovingian said as he called a Lupine forward and told it something.
"So you'll be releasing Maes as well?" Steve Masters asked still unsure about this meeting.
"Fine, I'll let him go but I don't want him going off too far. He will be working for you from here on out, he is still a project of those commandos and I want to know what they are up to with him." The Merovingian said with a cocky tone in his voice.
"Fine but I shouldn't even be here talking to you let alone give you secret information since I am a Machine after all." Steve Masters said as he stood up and started walking back to the elevator.
"Your friend Maes Hughes will be down stairs waiting for you, we will see where your new career takes you." The Merovingian said as he started laughing a bit.
As he reached the parking lot he saw Maes Hughes beat up and knocked out on the ground bleeding from some cuts all over his body. As he started running over to him he ran into a group of Lupines that jumped in front of him. Just as he was about to say something to them they attacked him saying this was a message to him from the Merovingian not to go back on his word or something ten times worse then this would happen to him.
After that beat down he stood back up with his hair ruffled a bit and his clothes torn. He was not injured nor was he even bleeding but he got up and picked Maes Hughes up and walked out of the parking lot. As he got out he got into a taxi and asked the driver to take him to the hospital but just as he said that the driver turned into an Agent.
"Mr. Masters, you have secured the target?" The Agent asked as he continued driving. "Yes, he was battered a bit but should be good enough to survive. There was one thing though, the Merovingian wants me to help him down the line or he'll make my life hell as he put it, what should I do about that?" Steve Masters asked as he was worried about the situation.
"It's irrelevant, he will be of no threat soon enough. What matters now is the program you have, it proves to be a great asset for us but we will not be able to do anything with it at this time so we have decided to entrust it on to you to take care of till it has reached the correct awakened level. Agent Gray sends his regards, you have done a good job for your fist negotiating mission. We will be sure to tell others about this and get you some more work, we'll stay in contact Mr. Masters." The Agent said as he left the Taxi Driver.
As soon as they arrived to the hospital Maes Hughes was in perfect health and fully healed so he paid the Taxi Driver and got off with Maes Hughes starting to wake up. When they got out of the taxi it drove off and Maes was wide awake and standing there. He knew fully well what was going on because his programing alowed him to hear everything going on while he was out. They just talked about their plans and what had been going on while he was captured by the Merovingian. When they got to Steve Masters' place he checked for any messages but there were none. He started to think if he need to advertise a bit to get more jobs. So him and Maes Hughes put up some posters around the city with both of their cell phone numbers on it.
After they were done they went back to his place once again and waited for the next job, the next negotiation. Will his first public one go well or will it all cruble down? Will be make it to be Mega City's top negotiator? We will find out soon enough when the calls start coming in...
As he was waiting he noticed his suite was torn up. He was cussing like crazy because it was his favorite one. He had no choice but to go get himself a new one, one that would be nice and suited for a negotiator so he went to the closest clothing store. When he got in the Salesman though he was poor because of the condition of his suite.
"I'm sorry sir but we only take customers that can pay, we have no free food or drinks. I'll have to ask you to leave." Salesman said as he started pushing Steve Masters out of the store.
"What are you talking about I'm not poor, I shop here all the time." Steve Masters said pushing the Salesman's hands out of his face.
"Don't make me call the police sir, leave now or else." Salesman.
"I think not, I will shop here if I feel like it. If you continue to bug me I'll just shop some where else." Steve Master said as he dusted off his clothes and was trying to get past the guy but didn't want to hurt him.
"I don't care, bums don't pay anyway. That's it sir! You made me do this!" Salesman said as he pulled out a taser and started tasering Steve Masters and the manager came running up.
"What are you doing!?" Manager said pulling the taser out of the Salesman's hand.
"What are you doing?" Salesman asked giving the manager a *CENSORED* look.
"This man is our top customer!" Manager yelled helping Steve Masters up and dusting him off.
"What!? But he's a bum, I mean look at him!" Salesman said pointing at him and his torn clothes.
"That's because his job tares up a lot of his clothes up and he comes here to buy more!" Manger yelled at the Salesman.
"Take this!" Steve Masters yelled as he snatched the taser and shocked the Salesman till he was drooling.
"I'm sorry, this guy is new and he is going to be fired very soon." Manager said trying to appologize for the Salesman.
"Good, he needed to get a little shock to his life. I guess one more thing and I'll be happy." Steve Masters said as he picked up the Salesman and Machinegun Kicked him through the window of the store to the street.
"Don't worry, we'll cover the window and we'll give you a new free suite." Manager said trying to keep Steve Masters on as a customer.
"Sounds good, I'm looking for a new suite but not like the one I have on...I'm looking for more of a black suite this time." Steve Masters said as he was looking through the suites on the wall.
"Ah, I think I have the perfect one for you!" Manager yelled as hes he ran to the back and came back with this very nice looking suite.
"Perfect! I'll take it, try not to get any more people like that guy out there and I'll continue shopping here...we got a deal?" Steve Masters said as he grabbed the suite from the Manager.
"Yes sir!" Manager yelled as he went back to his office.
Steve Masters went into the dressing room and changed out of his torn white suite into his new black suite. He left the white suite behind as to say he was leaving his old life for a new start with his old friends and some new. He was ready to start over as a new man...as a Negotiator for Mega City. He arrived back at his house and fell on his bed and passed out after the long day he had.
