Ok, so your on a hostile server and everyone is up for grabs. Although you can jump to any HL in the city your still open to an instant attack as soon as you spawn.

So consider this for what I think is a grand idea...

  • Have 1 or 2 Hardlines hidden around the city, or 1 per district per faction that are for the exclusive use of a single faction. I don't mean Phoneboxes here, I'm talking inside a building like the original jack in/out points in the film. Make their location privy to a high end faction mission (More than a solo job) and from there word spreads through the rest of the faction through word of mouth.

  • A spin on this idea would be to have a certain no. of these HL up for grabs and it would either be a first come first served basis, or just first to find. First faction to initialize them would make it their own.

Ok, that was the idea but I'm not done there... I have reasoning behind the thought and if your intrigued I ask you to read the rest before posting your thoughts.

The benefits of this idea I think are great. A few spring to mind almost instantly...

  • You have somewhere safe to jack in where you know you'll be surrounded by friendlys.

  • It gives an extra few missions, or at least something to shoot for.

  • It will bring teams together in both the first finding, then spreading then keeping the place a secret from rival factions (Sneaking in and out, always being careful of 'who else is out there', keeping quiet so nearby hostiles searching or just passing don't hear you, lookouts and such)

  • Creating search parties or following your enemies to find their 'Base' cos that's what it'll essentially be.

Of course there will be flaws in the idea, there usually are in most. But to answer a few straight off consider this as a mini FAQ

Q. What if most/all the HL are controlled by a single faction?

A. How would you know? If you knew how many were controlled you should know where one is to strike at.

Q. So we've taken over a HL... All the rival faction know where it is...

A. As with the normal HL's, right clicking brings up more options, a further option could be to 'Relocate' (And the one who did it would know where it was moved to) or 'Disconnect' (Which would put it back up for grabs in a mission) Either function would have to be on a timer so it couldn't be instant and done by someone stealthing in, and of course have a cancel feature should the original owners win the fight (Which if they did should only be 'Relocate' so it keeps it fair and the winning was worth something.

Q. Some Team/Group/Clan won't tell us where it is, it's not fair...

A. See what I mean about bringing factions together. No longer will it be Team v Team, it'll be Org v Org in the true sense of the word. Sure there will be some that won't wanna give em up, you can't help people being jerks. But hey, you could always find another person from that team and follow them back unawares (You could even be a jerk too and tell a rival Org about it for a fee >: )

Anyway I'm right bored of typing now and I'd love to hear what all you out there have to say... Who knows, if you all love it and it is great, and implemented they could even spin it to the non-hostile servers as well (Although that one would be a team based privilege I'd imagine)

The floor is yours people, flame away!!!

I like the idea but, I'm still not clear on the whole "reconnect/disconnect" potion of the idea, I definitly think, that it would be cool to have certain controllable hardlines hidden in buildings throughout the city. I think a "capture the flag" setup with be easier to manage and slightly more dynamic. To find them It would be cool if hackers had an ability that was like, "search for a hidden HL" that would drop a way point and make a map, like when you do a mission, and then the hackers would have to hack into the line to make it "safe" for that faction, and then imagine hackers of an oposing org's could do a hidden HL search and if they find yours, you would get a warning and have to find a way to stop them, wow, it could even change the way hackers are played, maybe make them even more practical.

that might not work but if a faction needed 1 in each district the should pay for each month info that is

Yonda-----------

The reconnect/disconnect ideas would only be if the HL was discovered by a rival faction...

What use would the idea be if within a few days/weeks the HL was known to all and we would all be in the same boat again but with these HL instead of Phoneboxes

They'd have to always be unknown to rivals or they'd be useless as safehouses.

I do love the Hacker idea though mate.

The rent idea is good too...

Well, I think that the "secret" Hl's should be fixed and permanent, control however would be dymanic, I think the having to pay a "maintence" fee is also a really good idea

#12800000253 09/22/2005 13:57:23 Re: Hostile Hardline Idea...

Yondo-------

Think if you will to the films... Once a HL became compromised it was cut off or never used (Unless the need was dire) The Machines were always chasing them to the HL, not lying in wait.

Broadcasting/Hacking from your HvCft into the Matrix should be free down any Phoneline that can be hacked. As I said for this to work and be re-workable as time goes on they can only stay till needed or you'd get nothing but fighting over a HL that no one could ever use due to a 'Mara C effect'.

Wouldn't be much of a 'Secret' HL if everyone knew >SMILEY

Feedback is more than appreciated however, keep it coming...

Ok, that makes more sense to me then how interpreted it initially, I however am thinking about how "normal hardlines are handled in game, and it seems to me that it would be easier for the developers in implement if they used the current module. and of course they would be secret for long thats why I used quotation marks around the word secret, by secret I meant, that only the hackers could find them, and they would only appear on the map while your faction was in control of them, maybe another ability the hackers could have whilst hacking the line would be to alert agents to a hacked line, shake up the safety of the base so people couldnt hold on to it indefinitely

Yonda--------

Glad I've made some sense out of my random babble for you >SMILEY I find it hard to understand what I'm thinking sometimes let alone getting it down once and a while...

Anyone need anything clarifying from my original post or my answers just ask.

The little Q&A were as off the top of my head as the idea and I'm sure there are a load more questions or tweaks that could be implemented to it...

Anyone else wanna have a say?

#12800000262 09/23/2005 08:39:08 Re: Hostile Hardline Idea...
take that idea and flip it around for a second there. imagine normal hardlines that are "taken over" by having a percentage of people lets say 75% of one organisation in proxcimity. when this happends the hardline is locked down to all but that org. i bet your thinking that this would suck due to zion camping mara c right? well  that where it gets intresting . the org wanting to take over mara would come from othe other hardlines and once they arived the hardline is then locked to all the orgs since no one has the controlling stake . basicly stopping the people who you kill form comming back stright out of the hardline. now i bet your thinking but you could jsut have 1 guy at a hardline and its taken over cause thats 100%. the lockdown would only accur in combat situations so if there no fighting with 100meters of the hardline its open for all to enter. feel free to flame away SMILEY

#12800000266 09/23/2005 12:14:07 Re: Hostile Hardline Idea...

I think its an interesting Idea, Im still not clear on what would decide how the HL would get locked down, more than 25% of a another org in the proximity?

Back to the original idea, what if permanent Hl's were taken out, and instead they would be randonmly generated through various locations in the city on a daily basis?, and hackers would have to use an ability to find them and hack them out of the system making it safe for thier org?

Tseng-----------

Nice idea Tseng, but I do think that it's a complete spin. A totally new idea.

I was rather hoping you could give your thoughts on mine and/or add to it...

#12800000283 09/28/2005 07:45:36 Re: Hostile Hardline Idea...
Sorry Kids, rubbish idea.

Org hoppers will screw it in less than a week.

#12800000287 09/28/2005 10:50:08 Re: Hostile Hardline Idea...

Dv01D-------------

Hmmm, ok so Org hoppers might make it more tricky to keep them secret. Hence (if you read the post) The locations would be privy to the few that found it and would spread from there.

If you didn't know or trust someone you wouldn't tell them.

As for rubbish idea, what makes it rubbish? It provides something 'New' and 'Diverse' to the mission rinse repeat, or constant PvP. Something else to do.

#12800000288 09/29/2005 03:24:53 Re: Hostile Hardline Idea...
That is a great idea but it would take forever for it to work.

Since you're on a hostile server, can't you get all your faction mates to camp a hardline and gank anyone who comes out?

Makablesdinger--------

True it would be an absolute pain to do, but the HL's are there. The only change would be a mission reward (Got plenty of those) and a change to make some HL's non-stationary.

I concede the fact that 'if' this idea is a good one and will be used it won't be for a LONG time. But if and when it does it more than likely won't be exactly as outlined anyway. I wish it could be done tomorrow, it would change Hostile game play drastically and make it stand out (My view)

Cheers for the reply mate, glad you liked it...

JN.

P.S----- Not on a Hostile Server btw... I get the jist of it and probably will join with my second player when I have the time. But as it stands it was just an idea I had and seemed to relate to the Hostile server more than mine >: )

#12800000339 10/17/2005 14:03:11 Re: Hostile Hardline Idea...
This is a great idea to have faction controlled HL one thing that would be cool would be like what happened in the second movie with the zionist captians meeting in that sewer or basement  thing.  It would be cool if the orgs had an underground network of sewers that people can get into that go directly into a meeting are for zion or mervs.
#12800000342 10/18/2005 04:30:17 Re: Hostile Hardline Idea...

i give it one week before someone makes a new char and joins a rival faction onley to find out where the "secret" HL is and then it just ends up like any other HL in the game.. thats the way mxo players play.

i think it would be cool if all zions got uber neo powers and all machines got like super duper agent powers and the mervs  get teh assassin ownage powers and we all had like uber fights and we can like make up our own moves and stuff and like you can pick up the hardlines and move them where ever you want and then they should make it so when mxo dies you can convert your mxo character to a CoV character... yeah that would be really cool.. lol before you post ideas.. think about it from the coders stand point coding things like that would cost SOE ALOT more money then mxo is making them not to mention mxo already has enough bugs.. something like that would be extremely buggy and people would just wish they never added it in..

We pay the monthly fee, we can post what ever we want (within reason), just like you can disagree, or be angry, or whatever your problem is. I dont think anything that has been suggested in this thread is too unreasonable, and I don't see how anything that has been written warrants such a negative reaction. If SOE wasn't making any money off of MxO, it wouldnt exist. I dont have to think about it from the dev's point of view, its not my job, I can however be constructive and think of idea's that I think would make the game more fun (within reason)

I think the idea of player controlled HL's is an awesome idea, I think however that they should be temporary and change location everyday randomly(this is in direct conflict with what I said earlier, but, I now see that having them ramdomly generated would prevent spawn camping), and just do away with permanent HL's all together, Just create an ability in the hacker or spy tree that helps you locate HL's. MAYBE you could keep the HL with another ability. It would be nice if hacker abilities had something to do with actual RL hacking instead of casting magic spells

Thanks for your replies guys...

dOOmninja--------

As for an answer I have to point out once again that even if one of the HL's was discovered by a rival faction that's half the point... It will encourage working as a team to keep the secret and to finding it.

Also as said before they would not be permanently in the same place to end up like the current HL's. That would make no sense in include something the game has. This is an idea of a constant mission/struggle for control which makes perfect sense in the given environment.

And lastly your ideas on Uber powers and character game transferring have no relevance in this thread, perhaps you should start your own post and get feedback from there...

I can see this not being as much trouble as most think too. We have the HL's already there, and you can also teleport people using a Force Enhancer skill to wherever you are, internal rooms and all. (Not counting the tele bug that is currently happening in International... /bug it people, get it sorted quicker)

Cheers Yondo..., and thanks to DontEatRawHagis, I'm glad you can see the movie in this idea. The whole meeting secretly like in Reloaded, and using them to jack in safely (Given they've not been compromised since your last jack in) like in all the films is what I see improving the team and general game play. I like the underground stuff too... They have hideouts underground, why not a little sewer.

#12800000673 12/17/2005 16:26:19 Re: Hostile Hardline Idea...

I think this is a good idea, They should impliment a system like guild wars, Factions have their own area to go to and have a vender just for buying a faction hideout so then you can meet up with other faction members or just hangout there instead of (on vector) having a chance of constantly being killed when u are hanging out with other faction mates.
