Navigate to the matrix online directory (default is C:\Program Files\Monolith Productions) right click on it and make sure the directory isn't set to read only and then try running the game again and see if it makes any difference. SMILEY

Are you logged on as an administrator of the system or are you using a limited account?

If you are using a limited account you won't be authorised to change the directory properties.

Yes I am logged in as the administrtor. If I choose to hide it.. When the patcher comes up it disappeares. If I choose to archive I still get the same message. If I choose none of them I come back and read only is selected.

Vivi44,

You may want to try going to start Windows up in safe mode and then take read-only off in the options.

I've seen this before.  It happened soon after running Windows Update.  The fix turned out to be simple.  After 2 days of pulling my hair out, I went back to the Windows Update site.  Clicked Custom Install and to my surprise there was an update for my motherboard's ethernet connector in the optional updates.  I downloaded and installed the update.  Fixed the issue instantly.  If editing the file doesn't work try checking the Windows Update site if you are running Windows XP SP2.

Tried runing my comp in safe mode and changing it nothing happened.

Tried system restore my settings for 3 diffrent checkpoints couldnt be set

I am not running of of windows SP2 because of 2 reasons. One I dont know where my regestration/keycode is so if i go to the main site I cant download it. Secondly because anytime Windows makes osmething new more problems seem to happen. Ive reinstalled 3 times and i get the same message.. I dont understand how If something was altered It couldnt be rewritten.

Not sure, but I think your problem is not having SP2.  I am going to have to leave this one for the big boys.  I have more experience troubleshooting this game with SP2.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

OK i just noticed something when I go to propertys It is set too read only. But the way it is set to read only is a green square. If I click It it turns into a check if i click it again it turns into empty box. Is their something im doing wrong here?
#12400005880 10/21/2005 14:38:39 Re: Log in erorr =/ HELP!
No, the green box means certain files are set to read only, a check means all files are set to read only and clear means files shouldn't be read only.

As long as your removing the check it should work.

A quick question. In your matrix directory do any of the folder names stat with an underscore?

Try moving that file out of the directory and then try updating again.
