This apears to be an issue where a greedy company (Level3) who runs one of the major Internet backbones decided to not only shut down a major peer, but entirely filter out all the traffic from them (Cogent).

I really hope you guys are multi-homed through multiple Tier 1's or else I'm certain some of your subscribers will not even be able to contact you to complain.

Yup, little companies like RoadRunner, Verizon, etc can't access certain sites due to this issue. This is a biggie and will potentially set a prescedence for government regulation and/or more outages like this in the future. The outcome of this 1 snafu could literally change the way the Internet, routing and bandwidth sales/services work.

Ok, well I've done some reading on this topic. The following ISP's appear to be affected:

RoadRunner
Earthlink (fixed)

The following are not affected:

SBC
Adelphia

The following need confirmation but may be affected:

AOL
Verizon

A big deal is Photobucket and the Drudge Report which are hosted through Cogent only. Feel free to list your ISP here.

Yes if you were affected then contact your ISP and let them know they're stupid for not multi-homing (i.e. having more than one tier 1 connection). There were rumors of RR offering a free month of service if you asked, but I haven't confirmed that myself. Worth a shot I guess. Hey I know I'm not paying for 70% of the Internet, I want the whole she-bang! SMILEY
