Do they not believe that the "One" will return?

Have they lost hope in the Oracle's predictions coming true?

Has the Oracle actually made any predictions (since the movies) that
the One will return? I know she predicted it before Neo showed up, but
has there been some element of game story I missed out on where she
says he's coming back again?

Are they thinking that they will rule the matrix and the zionists and mervs will fall?

I don't think the Machines are out to destroy Zion. There's a
truce, and we're going to stick by it. The only areas where we get
prickly is when Zion is doing things that will destabilize the Matrix,
and thus threaten the existence of the Machines and those living in the
pods. So if Zion falls, it won't be because of us. It will likely be
the result of some power-grab squabble between its leaders that leads
to civil war.

As far as Mervs go, there's very few actions they undertake that DON'T
threaten the stability of the Matrix, which is ironic since they're
even more dependent upon the Matrix than we Machines are (there are,
after all, "certain levels of survival we are prepared to accept"...
whereas the Exiles have nowhere left to go.) The Mervs seem to be
constantly "tweaking" the system for their own personal gain, and thus
putting the Matrix's complex and fragile algorithmic underpinnings at
constant risk. Frankly, we don't have a truce with THEM, they're a
thorn in our side, and shall be removed accordingly.

Do they wish to kill everyone that isn't machine?

See the previous answer.

What are your reasons?

You have to remember... Zion does not necessarily = Neo. Had Zion
succeeded in their vision of how to beat the Machine Civilization, they
would have effectively carried out mass genocide against the human
race. (See Morpheus' comments in cinematic 1.2... "millions would have
died in their pods.")

Neo found a way to create peace, rather than death. Even as a
Machinist, I have great respect for that. There's a reason he was
called The One... he was the exception to Zion's rule. Zion may (or may
not) have the best intentions at heart, but infighting and distrust
invariably lead to more death and more war.

The Machines, on the other hand, provide a comparatively happy life for
the human race. You can argue that truth is more important than
comfort, and I can understand that way of thinking. However, I'll still
take a bucket of KFC over that soy-mash crap we got on the hoverbarges
any day.

Zion is compelled to free all the human minds they can, in spite of the
fact that there are many who are not ready to be freed, and many who
will wish nothing more than to go back once they *are* freed. (Take a
look at our current problems with those Cypherite nutjobs, for
example.) Zion isn't concerned with the interests of the Bluepills. They're only interested in adding to their ranks so they can
fight off the "next" Machine invasion. The one that the Machines, as
part of the Truce, have told Zion will never come. And if you're
worried that the Machines are going to break their word, I think the
Architect put it best: "What do you think I am... human?"

Now if you were looking for a non-RP answer to that question...

You were close when you said "Are they thinking that zionists act
stupid?". I'm not going to stand here and say every single Zion player
is a moron, because that's not the case. But there are a large number
of players who either...

A) ... go "Zion are the good guys!" and stick with them. This annoys me
because part of what makes the Matrix storyline so great is that there
ARE NO GOOD GUYS. Everyone is fallible. Everyone is involved in some
sort of political intrigue. But for the love of pete, Zion != Good, and
Machines != Evil. Since a big part of the draw to this game for me is
the storyline, I reserve the right not to associate with those who
ignore it.

B) ... never bother to investigate the other sides of the story, and
just stick with what they know. By the time you get your seduction
missions, you've already got what, 10 Zion missions under your belt or
something like that? Surprisingly, many of the Zionites that I've
talked to didn't even realize that they could work with these other
organizations. (Yet again, I realize this is not the case with
everybody, just pointing out examples.) That says to me that they
probably haven't paid enough attention to how the game works to really
get into it.

None of this should be taken as me saying that I hate all the Zionites.
There's a bunch of good people in that organization, but unfortunately
they tend to get drowned out by all the chaff among their ranks.

I can probably sum up best by describing the reaction I have to the other two orgs...
when I see a cluster of Mervs, I sort of curse under my breath like "god
I hate those guys" (just RP, not actually hatin' on anybody.) But when I
see a pack of Zionites, my reaction is usually more like "oh noes, not
these guys again" as though it were the 3 Stooges running up to me. :robottongue:

Man. I totally thought your name said "Hitler" for a minute. I gotta get my eyes checked.

I agree with Hitle... uh... HiLiter in that maturity and age do not
necessarily coincide. A lot of the people that I'd like to call
13-year-old n00bs are, in fact, in their 20s and 30s and have been in
the game since beta. *shrug* Just a fact of life.

@ Primordia:

Where is that quote from? A critical mission or live event or something?
