But something a little goofy happens on the map -- when I let go, my position on the map immediately moves backwards a bit, but I still end up landing on the map exactly where I let go. I've always thought that little backwards movement on the map was odd.
The backwards adjustment is because when you let go you are already over the spot to land on... meaning that you would just drop straight down. What happens is that you get adjusted to the point on the parabolic jump path you would be at to land at that point, so back and down a bit so that you can land with more grace than a rock.
