Karate, Kung Fu, Aikido. What's the diffrence?

From what I've seen Aikido sacrifices melee damage for defense, whereas karate sacrifices defense for melee damage. My question is - what does Kung Fu sacrifice? I might be mistaken, feel free to correct me.well, no area-effect ability(not like anyone uses them)
they don't have any abilities that breaks their opponent's resistance.
they get no self-buffs in the trees (like berserker buff etc)
they actually don't have any of the strongest state-specials of the three if you think about it, even though they have the most.
I am aware that dim-mak and wdd can be used one after the other, but so can ki-punch and foot-sweep. And Tomo-Nage has the potential to out-damage the two abilities put together.
It's all in your load man, if you and two friends go at it each using one style, one set of moves, they will seem to pan out a lot better. It's only when you can combine sky-high sidekick with EFK (and several other cross-ma combinations) that it begins to become deadly. If you see a kung-fu grandmaster, don't automatically assume that that's all they're using, because that would be a serious error, it only uses like 70 memory max

i cant find the diffrence fighting 1 guy he does 90 then using a skill that raises by 50 what changes my melee from 90 to 140 i stil take 90.............. is this right or is it for you dont get hit as much.............
The more resistance you have the less damage you take. And trust me if you fight a good karate master you need high resistance.*CENSORED* right, I've seen highly skilled Karate Masters dealing 1000+ with EFK, the best defense vs Karate is to not get hit at all.
karate has the most power, kung fu rolls the highest, akido best defense
You should try mixing trees i like using akido and kung fu, but everyone is different
Basically....
Kungfu - Accuracy + High DPS
Karate - Resistance Downgrades + High Damage
Aikido - Defence (Good all Rounder)
Yeah Kung Fu is my personal choice, using speed attacks I can usually pull off two specials one after the other if im quick
Usually someone will beat my rolls before this happens though :s
I have a harder time killing level 49s then 50s. loluhm how is that

mix and match your MA trees and you have some pretty good combos
i.e. have kung fu tree full then karate up to what you can load. when you get someone in staggered you can use the high damage kung fu specials and karate specials one right after the other
like all other trees you have to play with them and choose what YOU like... not what others tell you....
In my humble opinion, each MA tree has a different purpose that it is easily used for. Kung Fu for special states damage, good for PvP and fights with bosses. Karate uses alot of repetitive abilities, so it is best used against multiple lower level enemies. Aikido is best used as a last resort with Grab, Iron Body, and Serene Calm, that combo can take down even a Kung Fu grandmaster if used correctly, because the best offense is a good defense.
EDIT: Remember, to truly be good at any one thing, you have to be good at everything.
Karate looks like it took it up the butt......If I remember, Karate is the self defense ma and it should be reflected as such ingame. Akido I think is hitting light but fast and kung fu is slow but hard. They needed to be shown as such ingame cause karate doesn't even look like it's worth it.Actually kung fu is a fast one and powerful (the chinese self defense ma). Karate SHOULD be more accurate than it is, less def and powerful and aikido the def one with low damage and slower than the other 2.
It is a spiritual form, whose roots are buried in a man who is still today the single greatest martial artist of all time, even in death. It is a form of the mind, of the body, of the spirit. It takes true mastery of all of these to be able to wield the grace and fluidity, the speed and precision, the raw power of this form.
If you have not guessed by now, that form is Jeet Kune Do. The one form which encompasses the greatest Martial Arts forms, taking the best from each of the forms, and leaving out the weaknesses. If anything, that should be a Martial Arts form to enter the game, regardless of whether everybody would switch immediately to it or not.

It seems strange that you all talk about these various martial forms, and not a single mention of the one Martial Arts form that was indeed perfect. As the stats would go, it would likely receive 100 points in every category... because it took the very best from the best.

Ahhh... the discussion in this thread is about the three martial arts styles available in game (and there pros/cons ingame) not a general discussion about martial arts in the real world.
Tomo Nage is the most powerful MA move right?

Tomo Nage is generally considered the most powerful but I find Ki-Charged Foot Sweep reasonably comparable.

Yeah, I thought so. Aikido as a whole is a great tree for MA duels, but I find it hard to use in PvP in place of Kung Fu or Karate as the primary branch. I only know of two people who used it pretty well in PvP on Vector.
