Here's something that's always bugged me.

The Keymaker states that the only way to get to the room of doors is to disable the power, open the first door, then find the second and open it.

But ...

Firstly, Smith is in there when they arrive. How did he get there? He had no keys. He hadn't assimilated Seraph at this point either. Is this explained in EtM?

Secondly, when the Smiths zerg Neo & Morpheus, the Keymaker slips out one door and then back in through another.

Now I understand why the power had to be cut off to get into the room full of doors, because that was the access to the Source.
But why did they have to cut the power to the building to get into the hallways? Why indeed did they even need to go THROUGH the building, when the Keymaker proved that he could get in and out of it however he wanted?

Well, I figured that Smith had taken over so many people and retained
each person/programs memories. That he might of taken over programs
that had knowlegde on the secret doors, more so then the Keymaker did.
In  Enter the Matrix Smith uses the hallways  to confront
both Ghost and Niobe, which means he knows them(The halls) well enough.

As for The Keymaker, ehhh...I was gonna say he might not of been able
to open those doors unless he got past the first one....but Im guessing
its just a plot device to get him past the Smiths and in the doorway to
get shot.

i think when smith first started cloning and tried to beat neo down neo /ccr'd him for sploits. then brewko brought smith to the white room. they had an argument and smith said to brewko. *look..theres the oracle* when brewko turned around to look one of the smith clones hid under brewkos desk. after brewko sent the smiths away and left the white room the smith that was hiding under the desk snuck out of the with room and used to doors that were not connected to the door that was connected to the source to assimalate other programs to mulitiply himself. then he just talked to himselves while he waited.

they power only had to be out for them to get into the main access door to the halls wich was located in that building. the rest of the doors could take you many places but could not access the halls from those locations. so once the keymaker got in he could use all the doors he wanted to except the main entrance door they came into or the main outrance ( thats not a wurd is it ) they were tryin to get out of.

There's no reasonable explanation, but Smith is an ex-agent. He still probably has some abilities from when he was an Agent.

Therefore, he could get in, since programs like Agents and Smith have a knack for appearing out of nowhere.

2nd possiblity: Smith sneaked in behind them, took a door as soon as he could, and appeared in another room.

Not really, but IIRC, the Twins actually stole the key from the Keymaker in EtM.  How Smith got access is another matter, but obviously the Keymaker and Seraph were not the only people with access to the hall of doors.  Smith probably assimilated someone who had access (just no one we knew about).

The Keymaker states that the only way to get to the room of doors is to disable the power, open the first door, then find the second and open it.

The Keymaker never said the power *had* to be cut in order to get access to the hallway (Seraph used the hallway as a shortcut with Neo & the Oracle earlier in the movie, and Ghost/Niobe were in there during EtM).  The power only had to be cut in order for the Source to be accessed.

Since there was no way to contact Neo/Keymaker once they were inside the hallway, it just made more sense to cut the power up front before they ever went inside, so they would know as soon as they got to the Source that it was safe to open the door.  If not for Smith getting in the way, it would've been a relatively short trip.

Why indeed did they even need to go THROUGH the building, when the Keymaker proved that he could get in and out of it however he wanted?

Each door only leads to one place in the Matrix, and because the hidden doors are spread throughout the world (or at least the megacity), I think they had to go through the building only because the hidden door they were closest to after saving the Keymaker happened to put them at a distance from the door leading to the Source.  We don't know exactly where the Keymaker appeared when he slipped in and out to avoid Smith, so it might not have been feasible for them to travel through the Matrix just to find a hidden door that put them close to the Source, when they could use the door closest to them and travel through the building (not expecting Smith to appear, of course).

It wasn't the Twins who stole the key, it was Cain and Abel. And they were able to get into the Industrial Hallway beforehand. They had to, in order to steal it. Apparently, The Merovingian later destroyed the key and sprinkled its fragments over Niobe / Ghost as he held them captive.

But yes, as was pointed out, the power had to be cut because of the bomb in the building that led to the source. It was the floor "where no stair can go, and no elevator can reach," the one where any kind of entry would result in a massive explosion (which later happened when Neo left the Control Room). The Industrial Hallway is not protected by anything other than the need for 'sploits to get inside.

If I've understood this question correctly, the answer should be pretty easy. The door in the "room" where the Keymaker died (which was not the hallway anymore) simply wasn't in the hallway. In order to access it, you needed this special key and enter it from that hidden floor in the secured building. There simply wasn't any access to it directly from the hallway, only to the floor -- which was secured by bombs.

I think questions like these don't have a definite answer. The Wachowski's probably wanted us to make our own minds as to why and how things happened in the matrix so everyone views it from a different perspective.

Thanks, I knew it was stolen by two people from the movie, I just couldn't remember which two..  :smileyhappy:

And they were able to get into the Industrial Hallway beforehand.

Where do you get 'industrial hallway"?

It's what they call it in the screenplay. Same with "Control Room" for where the Architect is.

Interesting.  Can't say I like the name, but whatever.  :smileyhappy:
#11200004091 05/01/2006 20:29:55 Re: White Hallways Question
Its not the keys that have the code, its the tumblers. Seraph explained that one key moved the tumbers into position and another key moved them into another position, thats how one gains access into the hallway. Smith could have "lock picked" his way into the hallway, which doesnt seem that far off. If he assimulated someone that could pick locks, which according to the story he assimulated every human in the matrix, then its likely that it was really a matter of time before he managed to crack the tumbers.

Interesting side note is that Smith seemed to know that at one point Neo would have to use the whitehallway as in ETM when he comes across Ghost or Niobe using the white hallway he says "**bleep** not the one im looking for."
#11200004104 05/03/2006 18:33:31 Re: White Hallways Question
My understanding, which may indeed be fouled, was that they needed to open the last door, not the door which Smith was "guarding"  but the one which led to the Source. The Industrial Hallway had been used previously by Seraph & Neo, Ghost & Niobe and Neo and that chick he rescued from Club Hel. Just to name 3.
I have no idea what you are talking about...

What chick from club hel? Was that a PON refrence?

Hmm never played PON, heard it was a royal disapointment.
#11200004110 05/03/2006 23:25:19 Re: White Hallways Question
It was. I've disowned it and do not consider a single fragment of its story be canon in any way, shape, or form.

Especially the Merovingian's Chateau. Yeah, like Neo's gonna spend half an hour running around an M.C. Escher house come to life just to save some hideous banshee chick while Trinity is being chased by the Twins on the 101.
#11200004115 05/06/2006 17:45:41 Re: White Hallways Question
It wasn't supposed to be taken as canon.  That was the whole point.  The Wachowskis essentially confirmed that at the end.  PON allowed you to play through all the good parts from the movies, but it also allowed you to take a path different from what Neo did.  Yeah the Chateau part was pretty crazy, but the purpose of the game was to have fun, not to simply duplicate the movies.

For example, you can escape Metacortex and meet up with Trinity and her motorcycle, instead of letting yourself get caught by Smith.  Or you CAN let yourself get caught by Smith if you prefer, doesn't matter.  Instead of just flying away at Debir Court, you can kill all the Smiths.  Instead of having Smith use your head as a crater-creator, you can do that to him instead.  And then of course, the final battle was nothing like the movies.

So although the game wasn't perfect, there were plenty of awesome moments.  Don't discount it just because its not canon.

Hmm, I think then ill check it out, if anything just for the awesome moments that you mentioned.

Well, I do not at all consider PON as canon. I was merely being my normal mischeivous self.
