So I was just going over the Recursion forums again, like I normally do
all the time, and I started thinking. And here's what I started
thinking:
"Ahh, another group of discussions on Cryptos, and Agent Gray, and the
Masked... hey... wait a minute... What other game has these great
discussions?"
And, well, I thought about it. And I simply came up with
none. Matrix Online is the only MMO that keeps you on the edge of
your seat, wondering what the heck is going on behind the scenes and in
areas you can't see. We wonder what Cryptos is up to, we wonder
what his purpose is. We wonder why Agent Gray is going insane and
we speculate. We fall to the whims of the surviving LET
characters, and we let them each touch us and affect us, even if we
never get to meet them.
What other game can say that? Can you say that you think about
the child king of Stormwind every once in a while, and have huge
discussions about him and his purpose or what he's up to? No,
because you know that the little kid is always going to be standing in
the exact same position in Stormwind, all the time. Do you think
about the leader of the Jeuno Guards, Wolfgang? No, because you
know he'll always show up in the same cinematics for everyone.
You can find out what he does, you don't have to discuss and speculate
on it.
I don't like to visit the forums of other games because, once again,
it's the same groups of discussions. How certain classes aren't
that good, how some class got nerfed, how some guild is better than
others... etc... And we have those conversations here too, but we have
these great "special" threads, where we all mouth off to one another
about our speculation on the story. We formulate theories and try
to figure things out before the characters do, and we even strive to
even back up the story characters. We tell others that we work
FOR the Merovingian, we work FOR Zion, we work UNDER the
Machines. We don't just wear nametags, like perhaps we do in
World of Warcraft. Do we feel the need to say that you work FOR
the Alliance or FOR the Horde? No, not really.
Once again, we tell people about our conversations with Agent Gray,
even if they're something like "So how are you doing today?" We
got to interact with the story, and that's such a major benefit.
The point of the matter is, well, we're immersed and we're
interested. Our discussions and willing participation in the
storyline proves that. And what other game changes as new
cinematics are viewed and new newspapers go online? Where else do
you scour a fake newspaper for clues? We're still pretty lucky
here... perhaps we should think about that sometimes and let it bring a
smile onto our faces, instead of talking about the gloom and doom of
the Matrix Online all the time.
EDIT: And someone actually went back and 1 starred every single one of
my posts, bringing me down to a green. Ok, whoever did that
seriously has WAAAAY too much time on their hands. My
recommendation: go outside.

EDIT 2: Ok... I actually went back and counted... They 1
starred 122 of my posts, about. Still, my recommendation stands,
GO OUTSIDE.
