Radio stations should really stay quiet about security guard locations.

I want everyone to think about something for a moment. Would there really have been so much lag in this event if the radio stations weren't announcing where the security guards are?

Let me give you an example. At one point I was waiting around at Eshean Park. According to the /who command, there were only 24 people in the area. A security guard showed up. It was announced on a radio station that a guard is at Eshean Park, and the DJ encouraged people to head down there. It didn't take long before the /who command gave me "Too many names to display".

No offense to the radio stations. But if they weren't telling the population of the servers where the security guards are, then maybe everyone would be spread out amongst the eight concert venues. In doing so, the security guards will come to you instead of you going off to them, creating a caravan of lag.

I'm not saying I'm right, but honestly, in Eshean I didn't experience any lag until the population of the server converged on the area due to a radio announcement.

Sooo....you want the Security Personnel all to yourself?  Nice try.
~Actually, the thing is, when a dj mentions the area you're in, GET OUT quick.

Not at all. Just that it seems better to wait at one of the sites instead of joining 98% of the population in one single area.

your right...however ppl in eashen would tell faction that the lights are on and more are spawning in the park so people will come anyway....this is what was happening as we had members from our faction distributed around the concert sites....

but it wouldn't be as quick as if the radion wasn't telling ppl

Plus, telling the faction only informs so many people. Yet with the radio stations, anyone who is listening would be informed. Yes, telling the entire faction may be a problem, but not as bad as telling everyone listening to the radio.

Bro - ONE person writes in faction chat "LIGHTS ON IN UNION HILL!" and the entire faction floods there. About 20 seconds after something happens everybody in the game who has a faction knows it.

Hmm?

Honestly, just think about it. Are the players really completey blameless when it comes to server stability? Even if we had more powerful servers, wouldn't more people in one area overpower those servers as well?

Hmm. True. But is this right? I remember one time when the Oracle appeared in Debir Court on Syntax. There were only a half dozen of us, maybe a little more. We decided not to tell anyone because we wanted a nice, quite LE appearance. I went through that entire experience with no lag. Then I saw screenshots of similar Oracle appearances on the other two servers. Debir was packed.

I'm not attacking anyone, but I believe players should take at least some responsiblity in the stability of the servers. Instead of people telling their friends, who tell their friends, who tell their friends, etc.

If I am not mistaken Recursion has QUITE a larger population than Syntax - so of course anything falls out bigger and more crowded. Also - every player pays their $15 bucks and has a right to be present at any and every meeting they wish to be present on.  So withholding information for your own personal "gain" or enjoyment is just wrong in my opinion.

Radios do cause a lot of players to come, but I think word of mouth is mostly what causes the rushes. I know it creates lag, but everyone's trying to get what they can out of the events.

But then everyone shows up in one area, causing lag, and people complain that they didn't enjoy it.

And I'm all against withholding information when it comes to character apperances, but only when it comes to withholding what was said. I'll gladly share what was said at any appearance. How is everyone supposed to get the full experience if people are withholding information from meetings?

Heck, not only do the organizations get much of the same information from most meetings, but many "classified" meetings in the past concern events that have long since ended, thus the information shouldn't be "classified" anymore.

Like when Seraph and the Oracle appeared to certain worthy people after the "Race to Find The One" event. She basically gave hints concerning the "Hunt for Morpheus" event. That event is over, the information is now known to all, thus it shouldn't be hidden away.

Even though I can understand the concerns, the comment regarding the fact that the servers should be stable enough to hold large amounts of people is pretty much my opinion of things too.

I mean... when planning the event, was it the intentions of the devs to only have a small proportion of people show up, or did they want to attempt to enrich the gaming experience of as many of its subscribers as possible? I would -hope- its the latter.

Don't get me wrong, lag during an event is a **bleep**, but I don't think its fair to point blame at the radio stations.

On this note, i'd like to give huge HUGE props to the guys at Exile Radio, Radio Megacity and my team at Split Infinity Radio - between us we have shared roughly a total of 400+ listeners over this weekend - thats a lot of people being kept informed and entertained, and I salute anyone working to make this happen - this is a positive sign for this community and this game and i'm proud to be a part of it...

...and no i'm not drunk.... well... not much :/
