Can we agree to disagree?

I am not sure this belongs here perhaps "off-topic" but I think it need to be reiterated about forums.

I read a post the other day, I believe by Gothique, about "how to post."  I noticed the last paragraph which could be summed up into don't post negatively.  I wanted to expand in this direction.

When did it become the norm to attack people in an argument instead of offer counter points and constructive criticism.  I too have been guilty of this but, it was out of pure frustration, can no one argue or debate aspects of this game without eventually resorting to personal attacks and flames.

Even more deceptive are posters that, on the surface, seem to be offering a counter point to your argument yet, are merely good with writing and have effectively diluted your argument to everyone else and tried to make you look the fool.

Can I state my opinion, no matter how ridicules without being called "ignorant" or that my argument "holds no water"?  I want to be able to state an argument and/opinion and debate it, I have an open mind I listen, heck, I have even changed my mind before.  I am not so firmly entrenched in my ideas and opinions as to believe they are without reproach.

"can't we all just get along.."

Sorry I just need to get that out.  I wrote this because I saw someone else's opinion hacked and attacked and the poor poster caved.

We all love the game else we wouldn't be here, remember that, we're in this together...

I can only wonder what brought this on.  :smileywink:

If I seemed to have been attacking people here (I'm sorry and it has never been my intention), it may be because I myself feel a little flamed by the opinion that seemed to have been accepted as fact.  It's the idea that people who play and have a high opinion of this game (like me) are the ones who aren't hardcore Matrix fans.  People who have jumped over the argument and have simply accepted it as gospel that this game is nothing like the movies.  I feel a little put off by that, but it's the feeling that most who have lower opinions of this game are currently going with.

One person even decided to flame those players like me as "immature adolescants who play this game" just before he left (and the posters that responded to him even praised him for it, the same posters who get mad at me for my apparent flames).  And to that I say with utter sarcasm, very courageous.  It was cheap but a good tactic nontheless, because there's nothing we can do to him now.  He left.  And hey I'm not really mad at him.  But I do feel like that's how a lot of folks with lower opinions of this game currently feel: that those of us who like this game aren't fans of the movies, or at least misunderstand them.

The other feeling I get is towards players like me that have a high opinion of SOE.  We're apparently fanboys, brownnosers, kissups, suckups, buttkissers, whatever you wanna call it, simply because we have a more optimistic view of SOE.

That leads me to the bit of hypocrisy that goes on on these forums.  The people who get mad about flaming and attacking from other posters, feel it's okay to outright flame SOE and devs.  In other words it's like: "Don't flame me for saying this, but I think the devs don't know what the **bleep** they're doing."

The SOE flames I've heard to date are:

"SOE doesn't care about gamers."

"They only want your money."

"They're actually trying to sabotage this game."

"Poor leadership."

"They don't listen to us."

"I could do a better job than them."

The list can go on from that point, and those are actually light weight compared to the ammount of "bleeps" and utter insults SOE gets for what they do.  And whenever their post gets deleted or locked, they start new threads and flame the mods.  And those of us who actually tell people to stop flaming the devs and mods, we get pleasure of being called fanboyz.

Now I don't think that gives me or anyone a right to flame and attack others, but I ask what's the difference between flaming SOE and flaming others in the community?  To this I will try to be the better man and think about my tone before posting.

We all love the game else we wouldn't be here, remember that, we're in this together...

I'm not sure about that.  I honestly think that there are people playing this game that hate it or come close to it.  As they have said, what keeps them here is the community and the hope that this game will get better.  Other than that, it hangs on a thread as to whether they'd stay or leave, because it really seems that as far as the game itself, they hate it or come close to it.

Excellent!  Agree, specifically to the SOE argument.  I myself have had some bad things to say about so but generally speaking I am glad they are here and I truely believe they are doing a much better job than lith could have dreamed.  That being said, IMHO, they are not without their faults.

I appreciate the responses, especially you AtherEld, I know you and I have gone a few rounds but I would like to think the jist of it is good honest debate SMILEY
