The old forums, as far as I know, are gone for good--I did announce that there. The announcement about the archiving was for the old world forums pre-merge, not for the forums post-transition.
I know there was a lot of good stuff there, but there just wasn't any way to bring it over or store it away. It's a brave new world out here.
